A TikToker who raped a woman \u2018at least 10 times\u2019 has been jailed. The victim told a court of the \u2018deeply damaging\u2019 effect her ordeal has caused as Jennifer O\u2019Brien was locked up.<\/p>\n
The 34-year-old was jailed for 17 years for sexual and violent offences committed against the woman. The defendant, known as Jennifer Nieve on TikTok, continues to deny all the charges.<\/p>\n
O\u2019Brien, who a court was told has transitioned from a man to a woman, raped the victim despite her making it clear she did not want sex. O\u2019Brien would become \u2018aggressive\u2019 if she did not comply.<\/p>\n
The defendant, named as \u2018Jordan O’Brien aka Jennifer Nieve\u2019 in court documents – the latter referring to her social media handle – was found guilty after a five-day trial at Manchester Crown Court last year. She was referred to as Jennifer O\u2019Brien throughout a sentencing hearing.<\/p>\n
The defendant – followed by tens of thousands of people on TikTok – was found guilty of rape; assault by penetration; threatening with an offensive weapon; and another serious offence.<\/p>\n
The judge, Recorder Tim Harrington, said the rape charge was on the basis that no fewer than 10 rapes had been committed.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cI have to sentence you for at least 10 occasions that you raped her. This was repeated offending.\u201d In a statement read on her behalf, the victim told how she suffered from panic attacks and anxiety.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cI don\u2019t sleep for very long, and I\u2019m up at all hours of the night. If I am in a group of more than five people I suffer from anxiety. The impact has been long term and deeply damaging. I have lived for years with fear and anxiety.\u201d<\/p>\n
Defending, Dan Calder said: \u201cThe strongest feature available to Jennifer O\u2019Brien in mitigation is her previous good character.\u201d He said that O\u2019Brien \u2018does not agree with the verdicts returned by the jury\u2019, but recognised it was the judge\u2019s \u2018public duty\u2019 to pass sentence.<\/p>\n
Mr Calder said the defendant is \u2018highly likely\u2019 to be suffering from \u2018complex PTSD\u2019 and has a \u2018history of trauma\u2019.<\/p>\n
He said O\u2019Brien had spent two years on bail and had been observing an electronically monitored curfew, which would count towards the overall sentence.
