In contrast, eating a high-fiber diet can support a healthier body weight, reducing rates of obesity, <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC5731843\/\" target=\"_blank\" dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"noopener\">cardiovascular disease<\/a>, and <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uclahealth.org\/news\/article\/how-fiber-supports-overall-health-and-lowers-risk-colorectal\" target=\"_blank\" dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"noopener\">colorectal cancer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Emerging research suggests that fiber may also help <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/iadns.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1002\/fft2.437\" target=\"_blank\" dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"noopener\">mitigate the adverse effects of microplastics<\/a> in our bodies. According to Katrine Whiteson, a professor and microbiome scientist at UC Irvine, \u201cfiber will protect you from all different kinds of environmental toxicities\u201d by creating a sort of matrix that will absorb and excrete them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The exact mechanisms by which different types of fiber interact with the body remain an active area of research.
