(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Manchester council is asking people how to spend a pot of up to \u00a380m to improve four neighbourhoods \u2018crying out for investment\u2019 \u2013 as it sets out plans on how it intends to spend another \u00a317m on vital services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">It comes as the town hall\u2019s budget tops \u00a31bn for the first time. Bosses have launched a survey asking Mancs how the \u2018Pride of Place\u2019 fund should be used.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The government scheme has awarded up to \u00a320m to <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/clayton\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Clayton<\/a> Vale; south <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/gorton\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Gorton<\/a>; south Benchill and central <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/wythenshawe\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Wythenshawe<\/a>; and south <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/harpurhey\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Harpurhey<\/a> and Monsall over a decade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Councillors previously said \u2018every pound of this funding will be guided by the voices of local residents\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The money could be used for anything from building infrastructure; building a new town square; improving public safety; or funding cultural and arts initiatives.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The Harpurhey Together Parade last year.\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/0_The-Harpurhey-Together-Parade.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"The Harpurhey Together Parade last year.\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">The Harpurhey Together Parade last year.(Image: Kenny Brown | Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">It comeson top of existing council pledges to spend \u00a360m in Gorton town centre and a \u00a325m \u2018kickstarter \u2018for new housing and infrastructure on <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/moston\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Moston<\/a> Lane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Council leader Bev Craig said: \u201cFeeling proud of your street and neighbourhood is vital and that\u2019s why we welcome this additional funding, building on what we as a Council have already committed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cWhat makes this funding different is that we want residents to tell us how it should be spent to improve their areas \u2013 led by communities, for communities. This is a huge opportunity for people to shape the places where they live and to make a lasting impact which could last generations. \u201c<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The survey comes as the council welcomes 23 per cent more funding than expected for the 2026\/27 budget. The council\u2019s revenue budget is set to top \u00a31bn for the first time ever, after receiving one of the highest cash boosts in the country from Government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The unexpected rise is due to the \u2018Fair Funding review\u2019, which links council funding more directly to local spending needs. It means instead of closing a \u00a319m budget black hole, Manchester can now spend its surplus.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Manchester Council Leader Bev Craig\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1769817256_40_0_Headline.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"Manchester Council Leader Bev Craig\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">Manchester Council Leader Bev Craig(Image: ABNM Photography)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Proposals have been set out for how the council will invest \u00a317m extra to improve Manchester\u2019s neighbourhoods, including:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"LiItem_li-item__IF4xI\">\u00a35.13m more on street cleaning<\/li>\n<li class=\"LiItem_li-item__IF4xI\">\u00a31m to crack down on fly-tipping and littering<\/li>\n<li class=\"LiItem_li-item__IF4xI\">More than \u00a31.7m to for maintaining public spaces<\/li>\n<li class=\"LiItem_li-item__IF4xI\">An extra \u00a33.2m on the Council\u2019s Neighbourhood Infrastructure Renewal Fund to improve the look and feel of communities<\/li>\n<li class=\"LiItem_li-item__IF4xI\">\u00a31.1m to improve road and pavement surfaces, bringing the total highways budget to \u00a320.7m<\/li>\n<li class=\"LiItem_li-item__IF4xI\">\u00a31.47m on a range of schemes to improve access to, and involvement in, sports and physical activity for Manchester people such as plans to expand free swimming for under 16s and over 60s<\/li>\n<li class=\"LiItem_li-item__IF4xI\">\u00a3350,000 a year for community events, plus an extra \u00a3250k to help groups organise their own local events<\/li>\n<li class=\"LiItem_li-item__IF4xI\">A \u00a3500,000 fund to help local high streets<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"And the council is asking for your say on what to spend the money on.
