Some say they \u201ccan\u2019t relax for a minute\u201d as the future of their loved ones\u2019 care is in doubt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/wirral\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Wirral<\/a> Council is considering <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/families-plead-council-not-close-33270993\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">a number of options for its day care service<\/a>s. The local authority currently runs eight day centres across the borough which provide support for people with learning and physical disabilities through the Wirral Evolutions service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">For those who go there, the centres<a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/families-plead-council-not-close-33270993\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\"> feel like home with friends and a community to welcome them<\/a>. It is this safety and comfort families fear is <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/families-plead-council-not-close-33270993\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">now being threatened.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">All options are being considered including possible privatisation which is causing the most worry. Families said when the council previously privatised the <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/staff-dont-want-picket-line-32818894\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Wirral Evolutions service<\/a>, they were completely shut out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Several family members of those supported by the service have told the ECHO that they have questions about how things might work, whether their loved ones will be properly looked after, and their fear that the council may make the same mistakes again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In February the council will be asking for people involved with the service to make their views, concerns, and ideas known urging everyone to take part. Cllr Graeme Cooper said all responses would be considered before any recommendations are made over the future of the service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">There\u2019s scepticism that the council will listen. He is very frightened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Others fear council changes could also see them paying as much as \u00a32,500 for care. Christine Brie, whose son Alex receives support, said: \u201cThey are coming at us at every front and telling us no details about these things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Some are feeling more hopeful. Anne Archer, who pleaded with councillors not to close her son Tom\u2019s centre, said: \u201cWe have to cope with the same questions again and again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Colin, her husband, said: \u201cIt\u2019s affecting everybody in the family, the uncertainty. It\u2019s worse for Tom and we constantly have to reassure him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">If the council reduces services as she fears they might, Anne said: \u201cAt the moment we are able but it\u2019s getting harder. How am I going to do Tom\u2019s personal care? How am I going to look after him?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In all this uncertainty, staff represented by union Unison have <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/staff-dont-want-picket-line-32818894\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">also been walking out on strike<\/a> due to a dispute separate from any future plans. Jennifer Hunter, whose brother has been going to Eastham\u2019s centre for 41 years, said the situation was pushing her to the brink.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">She said the situation \u201cbreaks my heart without a doubt\u201d, adding: \u201cI want them to realise that this strike action has made my life as difficult as anything the council have done. The strike action has thrown me into the abyss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Responding to the criticism over the strikes, David Jones, branch secretary for Wirral Unison, said: \u201cThis is not a decision taken lightly, and we are very conscious of the disruption that this will cause to the people who use our services. The union has also criticised the council over the service review.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Adult social care committee chair Cllr Graeme Cooper said: \u201cI am meeting regularly with parents and carers and I am aware of their concerns, as well as their wish to achieve better outcomes for the people the council cares for.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cWith other committee members, I have also visited all the council\u2019s day centres to meet some of the people that the council supports and members of the day services team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cAt our committee meeting last week, members decided to consult on proposals to redesign and transform day care services in Wirral.
