{"id":736089,"date":"2026-02-01T22:36:14","date_gmt":"2026-02-01T22:36:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/736089\/"},"modified":"2026-02-01T22:36:14","modified_gmt":"2026-02-01T22:36:14","slug":"vyner-joins-wrexham-bristol-city-fc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/736089\/","title":{"rendered":"Vyner joins Wrexham &#8211; Bristol City FC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bristol City can confirm Zak Vyner has joined Wrexham for an undisclosed fee, bringing an end to a 20-year association with the club.<\/p>\n<p>Vyner joined the club\u2019s Academy in 2006 and has made 264 appearances for the Robins.<\/p>\n<p>Progressing through the academy ranks, Vyner made his City debut in a 2-0 Championship win over MK Dons in February 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Loans spells with Accrington Stanley, Plymouth Argyle, Rotherham United and Aberdeen followed in the seasons after before becoming a regular member of the City side in the 2020\/21 season.<\/p>\n<p>In the 2022\/23 season Vyner was named Players\u2019 Player of the Year by his teammates, a demonstration of his growth as a player.<\/p>\n<p>He was an ever-present in defence last season, as City secured a spot in the Sky Bet Championship Play-offs for the first time since 2008.<\/p>\n<p>In October 2025, Vyner made his 219th Championship appearance for City, setting a new club record, surpassing the total reached by Marvin Elliot.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"855\" height=\"570\" data-wp-class--hide=\"state.isContentHidden\" data-wp-class--show=\"state.isContentVisible\" data-wp-init=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" data-wp-on--click=\"actions.showLightbox\" data-wp-on--load=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" data-wp-on-window--resize=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20251021_BristolCitySouthampton_RT0953-855x570.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-129412\"  \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"855\" height=\"570\" data-wp-class--hide=\"state.isContentHidden\" data-wp-class--show=\"state.isContentVisible\" data-wp-init=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" data-wp-on--click=\"actions.showLightbox\" data-wp-on--load=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" data-wp-on-window--resize=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20250503_BristolCityPreston_RT2207-1-855x570.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-129411\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>After two decades with the club, the 28-year-old has also been committed to the club\u2019s work in the local community, supporting the Robins Foundation with a host of visits across the city.<\/p>\n<p>Jon Lansdown praised Vyner\u2019s development as a player and as a person in his time at Ashton Gate, adding: \u201cIt\u2019s a rare feat that you get a player playing their entire career at one club and with Zak, he hasn\u2019t quite done that but he has been a professional here for over a decade, with nearly another decade in the academy before that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a joy to watch Zak\u2019s rise from the academy to our record Championship appearance holder which is a testament to his hard work and resilience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has represented the club and the community in an exemplary way during that time and we wish him the very best for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"855\" height=\"570\" data-wp-class--hide=\"state.isContentHidden\" data-wp-class--show=\"state.isContentVisible\" data-wp-init=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" data-wp-on--click=\"actions.showLightbox\" data-wp-on--load=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" data-wp-on-window--resize=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20251222_CityHomelessShelter_RT058-855x570.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-129414\"  \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"855\" height=\"570\" data-wp-class--hide=\"state.isContentHidden\" data-wp-class--show=\"state.isContentVisible\" data-wp-init=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" data-wp-on--click=\"actions.showLightbox\" data-wp-on--load=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" data-wp-on-window--resize=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20251216_CityCHSW_RT704-855x570.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-129413\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>On departing the club, Vyner said: \u201cI\u2019ve been on this journey with you since I was eight. I never imagined it would go this far. It\u2019s been an honour to represent you, and I\u2019m so proud to have worn the shirt so many times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are many people I want to thank and acknowledge, starting with Steve and Jon for your trust in me throughout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo all the staff that make Bristol City so special and make going into train every day so great. To all the academy coaches I\u2019ve had, I wouldn\u2019t be here without you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo all my managers and coaches, I\u2019ve learned lessons from all of you. A special message to the gaffer, Gerhard Struber, it\u2019s been a privilege to play for you these past few months. The energy, confidence, and belief you\u2019ve shown me I will always carry with me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo every one of my teammates, it\u2019s been a pleasure to share a dressing room. We\u2019ve made so many special memories together on and off the pitch and I\u2019ve got friends for life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd finally, the fans. We\u2019ve had our ups and downs, but we\u2019ve shared so many amazing moments together.
