{"id":737865,"date":"2026-02-02T18:52:26","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T18:52:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/737865\/"},"modified":"2026-02-02T18:52:26","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T18:52:26","slug":"eu-takes-the-next-step-towards-energy-independence-from-russia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/737865\/","title":{"rendered":"EU takes the next step towards energy independence from Russia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Published today, the <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=OJ:L_202600261\" data-entity-type=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">REPowerEU gas regulation<\/a> (EU\/2026\/261) sets out the legal provisions\u00a0to phase out natural gas imports from Russia.\u00a0This\u00a0historic decision, taken at the end of last year, aims to end the EU&#8217;s dependence on gas from Russia, once and for all, by 2027.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As we approach 4 years of Russia\u2019s full-scale war in Ukraine and its weaponisation of energy, the EU continues to exert pressure on Russia and to prevent it from financing its ongoing brutal war.<\/p>\n<p>The REPowerEU gas regulation is published in the Official Journal, entering into force the following day.<\/p>\n<p>A<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=OJ:L_202600268\" data-entity-type=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> statement by the Commission on the phase out of Russian oil imports<\/a> (EU\/2026\/268) accompanies the publication of the REPowerEU Gas Regulation.
