A major Birmingham landmark was evacuated today, Wednesday, February 4, as emergency services rushed to the scene amid safety fears.<\/p>\n
Police, paramedics and firefighters were all on scene as the Library of Birmingham<\/a> was cordoned off during the incident on Wednesday, Feb 4.<\/p>\n Specialist ambulance crews who deal with ‘high-risk’ or dangerous incidents were in Centenary Square from around 11am. The man was marked as safe and with officers at around 3pm.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for West Midlands Police<\/a> earlier said: “We are currently at Centenary Square following concerns for the welfare of a man.<\/p>\n “A cordon remains in place but nearby roads are not affected.”<\/p>\n In an update, the force added: “The man is now safely with officers.”<\/p>\n The Library of Birmingham was taped off for several hours<\/p>\n No roads were closed and drivers were not affected by the incident.<\/p>\n A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service<\/a> said: \u201cWe were called shortly after 11am to a concern for a patient’s welfare in Broad Street<\/a>, Birmingham.<\/p>\n “One ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Hazardous Area Response Team are currently in attendance at the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n Anyone can contact Samaritans FREE any time from any phone on 116 123, even a mobile without credit.
