{"id":743767,"date":"2026-02-05T10:12:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T10:12:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/743767\/"},"modified":"2026-02-05T10:12:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T10:12:11","slug":"commission-finds-that-apple-ads-and-apple-maps-should-not-be-designated-under-the-digital-markets-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/743767\/","title":{"rendered":"Commission finds that Apple Ads and Apple Maps should not be designated under the Digital Markets Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, the European Commission has found that Apple\u2019s online advertising service <strong>Apple Ads\u00a0<\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Apple\u2019s<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>online intermediation service<strong> Apple Maps<\/strong> should not be designated under the Digital Markets Act (\u2018DMA\u2019).<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s decision not to designate Apple Ads and Apple Maps follows Apple\u2019s notification of these services on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/digital-markets-act.ec.europa.eu\/commission-receives-notifications-apple-under-digital-markets-act-2025-11-27_en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">27 November 2025<\/a>. Apple submitted arguments, explaining why, in its view, the notified services should not qualify as important gateways between business users and end users.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Following a review of Apple\u2019s arguments, the Commission has concluded that Apple does not qualify as a gatekeeper in relation to Apple Ads and Apple Maps, as neither of these platform services constitute an important gateway for business users to reach end users. This assessment is based on a number of considerations, including that Apple Maps has a relatively low overall usage rate in the EU, and that Apple Ads has very limited scale in the online advertising sector in the EU.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission will continue to monitor market developments regarding these services, should any substantial changes arise.
