{"id":744571,"date":"2026-02-05T18:41:14","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T18:41:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/744571\/"},"modified":"2026-02-05T18:41:14","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T18:41:14","slug":"extra-time-engagement-activities-across-sheffield-theatres-to-celebrate-the-ladies-football-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/744571\/","title":{"rendered":"Extra Time: Engagement activities across Sheffield Theatres to celebrate The Ladies Football Club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This spring, Sheffield Theatres will open their doors for\u00a0<strong>Extra Time;<\/strong>\u00a0a programme of free to attend activities and events in celebration of their\u00a0world premiere\u00a0production of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffieldtheatres.co.uk\/events\/the-ladies-football-club#entry:505839@1:url\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>The Ladies Football Club<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0By\u00a0<strong>Stefano Massini\u00a0<\/strong>(The\u00a0Lehman Trilogy) and adapted by\u00a0<strong>Tim Firth<\/strong>\u00a0(Calendar Girls), the production is directed by Sheffield Theatres Artistic Director\u00a0<strong>Elizabeth Newman\u00a0<\/strong>and plays at the Crucible from\u00a0<strong>Saturday 28 February \u2013 Saturday 28 March 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout February and March,\u00a0<strong>Extra Time<\/strong>\u00a0at Sheffield Theatres offers further opportunities for communities to join together, come to the theatres and find out more about the incredible women who inspired the play and those who have followed in their footsteps.\u00a0Ranging from a casual kick about to artistic sessions to listening forums,\u00a0<strong>Extra Time<\/strong>\u00a0offers a free to attend holistic range of activities, open for anyone and everyone to explore and connect with something extra to the performances happening on stage.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/xThe-Ladies-Football-Club-Casting-1920-x1080-px.png.pagespeed.ic.Wy_YuIOaVI.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24386\" style=\"width:621px;height:auto\"\/>Photo courtesy of Sheffield Theatres<\/p>\n<p><strong>Extra Time<\/strong>\u00a0will include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Football in the Square<\/strong>\u00a0(Saturday 21 March), following on from the success of our\u00a0Dancing in the Square\u00a0and\u00a0Singing in the Square. A\u00a0morning of activities to allow everyone chance to get involved and have a kick about.<\/li>\n<li>A public\u00a0<strong>exhibition,\u00a0<\/strong>displayed across the Crucible foyer, detailing the rich history of women\u2019s football in Sheffield.<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>listening post<\/strong>\u00a0project, hosting the voices from some of Sheffield\u2019s\u00a0communities and partner groups to share special personal memories and impactful moments the beautiful game has had on them.<\/li>\n<li>Alongside Sheffield Theatres usual schools project\u00a0Unlocking,\u00a0<strong>Our Home Teams<\/strong>\u00a0is a creative collaboration with a\u00a0number of community partners to devise football chants and scarves, celebrating team spirit and community found in football in the run up to\u00a0The Ladies Football Club.<\/li>\n<li>An\u00a0<strong>In Conversation<\/strong>\u00a0with\u00a0<strong>Elizabeth Newman<\/strong>, Sheffield Theatres Artistic Director and Director of\u00a0The Ladies Football Club, and\u00a0<strong>Scott Graham<\/strong>, Artistic Director of Frantic Assembly and Movement Director of\u00a0The Ladies Football Club. Designed to inspire theatre makers, teachers and creative performers to blend physical performance with the art of storytelling, particularly when combining sport and theatre.<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>life drawing session,<\/strong>\u00a0celebrating\u00a0The Ladies Football Club. Participants of all skill levels are welcome to join the session with a model clothed in costume. Learn more with drawing advice shared within the group and stories of the costumes\u2019 history.<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>series of free talks,\u00a0<\/strong>hosted by\u00a0<strong>Sheffield Home of Football<\/strong>\u00a0to delve deeper into archives of women\u2019s football and some of the fascinating stories of passion and dedication that have driven the game through a century of challenges to where it is now. Along with the free talks, Sheffield Home of Football will also be running city centre tours, delving even deeper into the history of the Women\u2019s Game in Sheffield, with tickets available to purchase at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sheffieldhomeoffootball.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sheffieldhomeoffootball.org<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Ladies Football Club<\/strong>\u00a0runs in the Crucible from\u00a0<strong>Saturday 28 February \u2013 Saturday 28 March 2026<\/strong>. With World War I forcing men onto the front line to fight, the women of Sheffield take their place in the factories, constructing the bombs and the bullets. When they start kicking a football around on their lunch breaks, it soon becomes clear that it\u2019s not just positions on a factory floor these women can fill; it\u2019s on the football pitch too.
