An easyJet<\/a> flight to France which departed from Edinburgh on Saturday morning was forced to divert after an emergency was declared mid-air. Flight EZY52GV landed in Manchester just over an hour after taking off.<\/p>\n

It left the capital slightly later than scheduled at 7.14am on February 7, bound for Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. However, a squawk 7700 was issued by the captain, signalling a general emergency.<\/p>\n

According to data<\/a> from online tracker Flightradar24, the plane circled south of Manchester before heading north to land at the city’s airport at 8.23am.<\/p>\n

The airline later confirmed the diversion was due to a technical issue, and passengers were transferred to a replacement plane before continuing their journey.<\/p>\n

A statement issued by easyJet said: “Flight EZY3211 from Edinburgh to Paris CDG today diverted to Manchester due to a technical issue.<\/p>\n

“The pilot performed a routine landing in Manchester and all passengers were transferred to a replacement aircraft and crew and continued onto their final destination, Edinburgh.<\/p>\n

“The safety of our customers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority and easyJet operates its fleet of aircraft in strict compliance with all manufacturers\u2019 guidelines.\u201d<\/p>\n

It comes just four days after the same squawk code was issued on board an easyJet flight from Edinburgh to Fuerteventura, which had to divert to Portugal<\/a> on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n
