WXCharts predict snow in February<\/p>\n

Scotland is gearing up for not one but two significant spells of snow in the upcoming weeks. We previously told<\/a> how snow showers are predicted to hit the country next week, and will last past Valentine’s Day as winter takes grip for a final time before spring comes forward.<\/p>\n

But now new snow<\/a> maps have forecast another severe deep freeze with blizzard-like conditions for 100 hours – or just over four days. Long-range predictions suggest that colder weather may arrive nationwide by February 16 and stay with us until February 20.<\/p>\n

The Met Office have cautioned that freezing weather<\/a> may happen in the next week, with slight flurries of snow but stopped short of making any major predictions. But wintry hazards throughout February are still a possibility, with snow, ice and travel chaos potentially still to come.<\/p>\n

According to WXCharts, there is only one area that will miss out on the snow showers, with Aberdeen and the north-east to dodge this. It will be a relief for Aberdonians who have suffered from more than two weeks<\/a> of having no sun, and having torrential rain almost every day.<\/p>\n

By Tuesday February 17, most of Scotland will be hit by a smattering of the white stuff, with the likes of Glasgow<\/a>, Edinburgh, Dundee and Inverness all hit, alongside the Highlands – although the far north will be spared.<\/p>\n

The most recent weather maps emerging from WXCharts indicate snowfall will hit next week and the week after, with extensive purple coverage throughout Scotland and northern England. In the most severe model predictions, vast areas of Britain appear shaded purple – usually employed to indicate heavier or more extensive snowfall.<\/p>\n

But there is a caveat in that long-range predictions are not as accurate, with minor temperature variations meaning that snow may not fall. It may actually just be sporadic and hit the most hilly areas, and mixed rain and sleet will make it too wet for the white stuff to lay in towns and cities.<\/p>\n

The Met Office indicates colder air might become settled for a period, raising the probability of snowfall across various parts of Britain. Its long-range outlook says that there will be unsettled conditions generally, with low-pressure systems expected to deliver rain, powerful winds and intermittent wintry periods rather than persistent snow.<\/p>\n

It stated: “Predominantly cyclonic patterns are expected to dominate the UK. The early part of this period could see colder conditions becoming established more widely for a time, bringing with it the likelihood of some snow. Milder and wetter weather may however hang on in the far south.<\/p>\n

“By the end of this period, the track of Atlantic depressions may shift a little further north than during the last few weeks. This will maintain broadly unsettled weather, with further spells of rain and perhaps strong winds at times. Many parts may become somewhat milder, given more of a westerly influence, though there remains the chance that colder conditions could linger towards the northeast.”<\/p>\n
