A now-deleted tweet earned over 100k views with claims of ‘Reform fakery’ but the image appears to be edited<\/p>\n

A photo posted in a bid to debunk an image of the Reform UK candidate’s campaigning in Denton<\/a> appears to be edited, the Press Association has found.<\/p>\n

Candidate Matt Goodwin posted a photo on X yesterday (February 8) of himself standing outside a house in Denton, which was decorated with several placards pledging support for Reform.<\/p>\n

‘Hello – you weren’t in. I called by to say hello,” he wrote under the post.<\/p>\n

But later that same evening, in a now-deleted post with over 100,000 views on X, another user claimed that Mr Goodwin’s post was ‘Reform fakery again’.<\/p>\n

It reposted a screenshot of another tweet, which read: “This is my house, this clown Goodwin has photoshopped his posters in my windows. I saw him standing outside taking a photo but he never even knocked on my door!”<\/p>\n

The tweet was accompanied by what appeared to be a picture of the same house but without the blue Reform posters.<\/p>\n

But news agency Press Association has found that this second photo – purporting to suggest that Mr Goodwin edited it – itself ‘contains several apparent artefacts that would indicate it has been tampered with’.<\/p>\n

In a fact check, PA’s August Graham wrote: “A closer look at the photograph posted<\/a> \u2013 which does not include Mr Goodwin \u2013 show anomalies which are likely relics of an editing process.<\/p>\n

“Immediately behind where Mr Goodwin was standing in the other photograph there is a small garden wall. In the apparently edited version the brickwork in that wall is disjointed, with one brick appearing to have been cut in half. Meanwhile, the door \u2013 which Mr Goodwin is partially obstructing in the other photograph \u2013 appears misshapen.<\/p>\n

“Although the large placards have been removed in the likely edited photograph, there still appears to be a small Reform UK sticker in one of the bay windows.”<\/p>\n

The house is visible on Google Streetview and, in an image dated June 2025, a small Reform UK sticker can be seen displayed in the front window.<\/p>\n
