An apartment block was evacuated as fire crews were seen scaling balconies in Trafford<\/a> on Sunday (May 4). The blaze, which broke out on a balcony at the apartment block on Chorlton Street in Old Trafford, then spread to the building’s cladding.<\/p>\n Fire engines could be seen in attendance shortly after 3pm, with crowds of evacuated residents on the street outside. Fire crews were focusing their efforts around a third-floor balcony.<\/p>\n The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said the fire, which had broken out on a balcony, then spread to the cladding on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n Join the Manchester Evening News WhatsApp group <\/strong>HERE<\/a><\/p>\n Affected cladding was removed from the building as the flames were dampened. Crews remained in attendance for a number of hours. No further details have been confirmed.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: \u201cAt just before 3.10pm on Sunday (May 4) five fire engines from Stretford<\/a>, Moss Side<\/a>, Manchester Central<\/a> and Salford<\/a> fire stations plus the turntable ladder and drone were called to a fire involving a balcony on the third floor of an apartment block on Chorlton<\/a> Street, Old Trafford, which has spread to the building\u2019s cladding.<\/p>\n \u201cFirefighters are using the turntable ladder to remove the cladding while using a jet, hosereels and the drone to extinguish the fire.
