{"id":754989,"date":"2026-02-10T13:04:15","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T13:04:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/754989\/"},"modified":"2026-02-10T13:04:15","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T13:04:15","slug":"stirling-prize-winners-in-running-as-riba-reveals-first-regional-shortlist-for-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/754989\/","title":{"rendered":"Stirling Prize winners in running as RIBA reveals first regional shortlist for 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Witherford Watson Mann, which won last year\u2019s Stirling Prize for its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/appleby-blue-almshouse-gives-witherford-watson-mann-its-second-stirling-prize-win\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Appleby Blue almshouse<\/a> in Southwark, is in the running for regional recognition with its oak-framed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/buildings\/witherford-watson-mann-completes-sensitive-addition-to-one-of-cambridges-oldest-colleges\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">River Wing<\/a> addition to the Grade I-listed Clare College, Cambridge.<\/p>\n<p>The RIBA East shortlist also includes another University of Cambridge expansion project: Haworth Tompkins\u2019 Pembroke, Mill Lane, for Pembroke College.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Alison Brooks Architects, which jointly won the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/archive\/accordia-wins-the-2008-stirling-prize\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stirling Prize in 2008<\/a>, has made the list with its net-zero residential development within the 150ha Eddington masterplan in north-west Cambridge.<\/p>\n<p>Other projects vying for a regional award include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/specification\/case-study-beam-by-bennetts-associates\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BEAM<\/a>, a new council-funded multi-arts hub in Hertford by Bennetts Associates; the conversion of a garage into an artist studio by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajbuildingslibrary.co.uk\/project\/artist-studio-in-a-converted-garage\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Edward McCann Architects<\/a>; and a private chapel in Suffolk by Matthew Seaborn with the\u202fWhitworth Co Partnership\u202fand\u202fDonald Insall Associates.<\/p>\n<p>RIBA East jury chair Julian de Metz, director at dMFK Architects, said: \u2018The East region, diverse in typology, scale and context, boasts some spectacular architecture at every level. Congratulations to all those who made this year\u2019s shortlist, with projects ranging from a modest, low-cost artist studio to major housing, education and arts projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018But what elevates a good building of any size to become great architecture? This will be best judged by seeing those buildings in the flesh, and the jury is excited and privileged to be doing this.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>All projects shortlisted for RIBA regional awards will be visited by a jur.
