The closure is to allow for a new drainage pipe to be installed across Whiteladies Road<\/p>\n

A section of Whiteladies Road is set to close yet again as a project to fix drainage issues and install new bike lanes<\/a> on the busy Bristol road continues. Delays are expected due to the closure.<\/p>\n

The lower part of the road, between Queens Road and the junction of St Paul’s Road and Tyndall’s Park Road, will be closed in both directions from Wednesday, February 11 until Wednesday, February 18. Bristol City Council<\/a> has warned motorists to avoid the area if possible.<\/p>\n

The closure is to allow council workers to install a drainage pipe across the road and an underground chamber to collect leaves, silt and debris to help keep the new drainage system clear.<\/p>\n

The finish date of the wider project to improve the road, which forms a key arterial route between central Bristol and the Downs, has been delayed until at least this spring.<\/p>\n

Announcing the delay in January, the council said a full road closure would be necessary towards the end of the project for resurfacing works but did not mention one would be required this early in the year.<\/p>\n

“Thank you for your patience while we carry out these essential improvements,” the council said in a comment posted on Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While the road is fully closed, southbound general traffic will be diverted via St Paul’s Road and Queens Road, whereas buses journeying south will be made to travel via Tyndall’s Park Road, Elmdale Road and Queens Avenue.<\/p>\n

All northbound traffic will be diverted via Queens Road and St Paul’s Road. Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained throughout the closure of the road.<\/p>\n

People living in properties situated on the closed portion of the road will still be able to access their homes, “but there may be times when it (access) is restricted or temporarily delayed,” the council said.<\/p>\n

Several bus routes \u2013 including the 1, 2, 2a, 3, 4, 71, T7, U1, U1N, and Y6 \u2013 will be affected by the closure. The southbound section of the road will reopen once the week-long drainage works are complete.<\/p>\n
