{"id":757865,"date":"2026-02-11T19:47:14","date_gmt":"2026-02-11T19:47:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/757865\/"},"modified":"2026-02-11T19:47:14","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T19:47:14","slug":"armley-mission-offers-free-blood-pressure-checks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/757865\/","title":{"rendered":"Armley: Mission offers free blood pressure checks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><strong>By Andy Dalton<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Free blood pressure tests are being offered to West Leeds residents.<\/p>\n<p>Blood pressure tests will be available next Monday and Tuesday mornings 10am\u20131pm (on 16\/17 February) at the Leeds City Mission Compassion Centre, Mistress Lane, Armley.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone can call in without appointment to have their blood pressure checked without charge.<\/p>\n<p>High or low blood pressure can be serious for all ages.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The chance of having high blood pressure increases as people get older. This is due to structural changes in the body\u2019s blood vessels or vascular system. Arteries get stiffer, which causes blood pressure to rise.\u00a0High blood pressure is one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease, especially heart attacks and strokes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The City Mission has partnered with the Leeds Blood Pressure-Wise Project, which is funded by Leeds City Council\u2019s Public Health Department.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>The City Mission runs a variety of initiatives including a Welcome Space, foodbank, clothing bank and other initiatives.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>City Mission Development Worker Andy Dalton said that professional health staff will be conducting the blood pressure checks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPromoting good health and well-being is high on the list of its projects to assist West Leeds residents,\u201d he added. \u201cWe hope that many people will be able to spare just a few minutes to call in and have their blood pressure checked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The City Mission Compassion Centre is located at the junction of Town Street and Mistress Lane (nextto Westerly Rise flats) in Armley.\u00a0More details on 0113 345 3118.<\/p>\n<p>Leeds City Mission is a multi-church Christian agency and has worked with marginalised people over three centuries seeking to meet the physical, social and spiritual needs of Leeds residents.\u00a0 It is one of the city\u2019s oldest charities, being in continuous existence since 1837.<\/p>\n<p>Sponsored content<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"645\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2024-10-31-at-19.08.56-645x900.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-164819\"  \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bramleybaths.co.uk\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">www.bramleybaths.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"By Andy Dalton Free blood pressure tests are being offered to West Leeds residents.
