Manchester United go into the crucial second leg against Athletic Club off the back of a defeat at Brentford.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ruben Amorim<\/a> enjoyed one of his finest nights as Manchester United<\/a> boss on Thursday.<\/p>\n

United beat Athletic Club 3-0<\/a> and effectively put one foot in the Europa League final, potentially against Tottenham Hotspur.<\/p>\n

Amorim therefore rang the changes against Brentford, with United facing Athletic again this Thursday night.<\/p>\n

United were beaten 4-3 at Brentford<\/a>, despite taking the lead through Mason Mount<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Bees ran riot to go 4-1 up before Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo pulled goals back for United.<\/p>\n

There weren\u2019t many bright spots from this United defeat, especially with Matthijs de Ligt picking up another injury.<\/p>\n

Amorim is concerned about De Ligt\u2019s injury<\/a> but must be pleased with how Mount played in his fifth Premier League start of the season.<\/p>\n

Mount arrived in the six-yard box to slot home Garnacho\u2019s cross, showing off his goal threat.<\/p>\n

We know Mount is a quality player, but his injury record since joining United has been the biggest problem.<\/p>\n

Amorim has now told United\u2019s official website<\/a> that he loved Mount\u2019s run into the box as much as the finish.<\/p>\n

Amorim feels Mount is \u2018really intelligent\u2019 and offers a threat in terms of crashing into the box from a midfield position.<\/p>\n

The United boss hailed Mount for training \u2018really hard\u2019, and admitted that he actually tried to hold him back from training more.<\/p>\n

Mount\u2019s injury record is no doubt in the back of Amorim\u2019s mind, but he is \u2018really happy\u2019 with where Mount is at right now.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not just the finish, it\u2019s the position that he has on the pitch,\u201d said Amorim.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s like a third midfielder that can reach the box, he\u2019s really intelligent, so he\u2019s getting there. And he trains really hard. Sometimes I have to push him back and to take him off the pitch because he wants to do so much more.<\/p>\n

\u2018We are taking care of him, he wants to play more minutes, but the minutes were controlled. I\u2019m really happy with him,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Mount\u2019s stats below, provided by Sofascore<\/a>, show that he not only possessed a threat in the final third but also contributed off the ball.<\/p>\n

Mount recorded two tackles, three duels won and four ball recoveries, showing both sides of his game in United\u2019s defeat.<\/p>\n

United\u2019s sole focus right now is on the Europa League.<\/p>\n

Amorim may have played down the Europa League\u2019s importance<\/a> earlier this year, but he now understands that winning this competition would be enormous.<\/p>\n

Moving past Athletic is priority number one, but Amorim and United fans would love to see Mount find a run of form.<\/p>\n

United signed Mount from Chelsea<\/a> in 2023, but the attacking midfielder has struggled to take on a key role.<\/p>\n

Injuries have plagued Mount and Sunday\u2019s goal was a reminder of the ability he possesses in the final third.<\/p>\n
