A new attraction has arrived in Manchester and it’s all about bubbles.<\/p>\n

Not just actual bubbles – although they do feature – but balloons, balls, colour-changing bulbs, pretty much everything that looks bubble shaped.<\/p>\n

The idea is to immerse visitors ‘in a bubbly universe where colours, lights, textures and illusions blend seamlessly’.<\/p>\n

Taking over a section of Depot Mayfield in Manchester city centre<\/a>, the Bubble Planet Experience<\/a> has arrived just in time for February half term<\/a> and will be around until the end of August.<\/p>\n

So what is it?<\/p>\n

The event<\/a> features 10 themed rooms, with each space offering something new.<\/p>\n

The first is LED Room, where a hypnotic aquatic world appears beneath your feet. Surrounded by mirrors, there’s no end to the deep sea adventure as bubbles ‘pop’ and turtles and stingray swim by.<\/p>\n

Bubble Ocean was a particular highlight – a room packed with pink and white balloons for families to play in. And we loved the Infinity Room, feeling lost amidst the colour changing lights.<\/p>\n

But the biggest hit had to be the giant Bubble Bath, effectively a huge ball pit that you climb down into like you’re getting into a swimming pool and play and hide among the thousands upon thousands of balls.<\/p>\n

There’s a giant pink person inside the bath and you can see their head and feet sticking out, so it makes for some pretty cool photos.<\/p>\n

Plus there’s shorter interactive opportunities along the way, including a bath you can sit in filled with ducks and a contraption you can stand in to create a full bubble around yourself.<\/p>\n

If you’re happy to pay a little extra, you can do the VR experience where you sit inside a bubble chair and immerse yourself in different worlds.<\/p>\n

What age is it for?<\/p>\n

It’s billed as ‘suitable for all ages’ – families, couples, groups of friends and everyone in between – and children under two visit free of charge.<\/p>\n

The children with me ranged from six to 11 and all really enjoyed the experience. I think teenagers would enjoy aspects of it, but would mostly use it for photo opportunities and not necessarily get involved in the interactive elements which is what makes this place so much fun.<\/p>\n

That said, visitors can take as many images and videos as they like, as long as they’re not disturbing others, so it’s ideal TikTok territory. Children from 17 up can visit without an adult.<\/p>\n

Groups of friends can have so much fun inside the huge Bubble Bath, as did we, so it would be perfect for school groups or team mates for example.<\/p>\n

There are some rules that visitors need to stick to, such as not touching the lights in the Infinity Room and no running in Bubble Ocean, so it could get a little tricky with some overexcited little ones who understandably want to run around kicking balloons in the air.<\/p>\n

Children need to be eight to do the VR alone, but can sit with a parent or carer if younger.<\/p>\n

How long does it last?<\/p>\n

You can take as long as you like in each room but it’s expected to take most people between 60 to 90 minutes in all.<\/p>\n

It’s a one-way system, which means you can’t go back to any room you’ve already visited, so make sure you make the most out of each space.<\/p>\n

We were there for an hour and a half altogether, but spent around 20 minutes of that in the big ball pool.<\/p>\n

It was that the kids would have returned to if we’d had the chance, along with the Bubble Ocean room packed with balloons.<\/p>\n

How much is it?<\/p>\n

Tickets<\/a> have been reduced since the event was first announced.<\/p>\n

For ages three to 12 tickets cost \u00a314.90 and for 13+ they cost \u00a318.90. All tickets have a \u00a32 booking fee.<\/p>\n

Students, senior citizens and those with a disability cost \u00a316.90, while children two and under go free.<\/p>\n

You can also get a group bundle with a minimum of eight tickets, which brings the cost to \u00a317.90 per person, plus a \u00a31.50 booking fee.<\/p>\n

VIP tickets include entry, VR experience, cloakroom and a Bubble Planet poster and these cost \u00a324.90 for children and \u00a328.90 for 13+.<\/p>\n

Is it worth it?<\/p>\n

Well, it’s not a cheap trip out, but for an attraction like this it’s typically what you’d expect to pay.<\/p>\n

And unlike some places, which might look good on photos but don’t offer much in terms of interactive fun for kids, then this is a winner on that front.<\/p>\n

As long as those balloons stay inflated – I’m sure they’ll probably have to add some fresh ones each day – the ball pit and other aspects are well maintained, and they don’t cram too many visitors into one session, then I think most people will be happy. I know my lot didn’t want to leave.<\/p>\n

I do think the VR experience and cloakroom should be included, rather than having to pay extra for these though.<\/p>\n

Just remember to take your time in each room as once you’ve moved on, you can’t go back, and we all know that’s not always easy to explain to children who have their own plan in mind.<\/p>\n

There’s also a shop at the end selling everything from bubble wands and plastic ducks to note pads and socks, so you may well end up spending on more than just your tickets.<\/p>\n

Where to find it<\/p>\n

The attraction is in one part of Mayfield Depot and is accessed via Temperance Street (M12 6HR) on the opposite site of the depot to Mayfield Park.<\/p>\n

The venue is just a few minutes’ walk from Piccadilly train station.<\/p>\n
