We\u2019re currently in the damp depths of one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/secretldn.com\/london-february-weather-forecast-met-office\/\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" target=\"_self\" class=\"shortcode-outbound-link\" data-has-ga=\"true\" data-ga-type=\"click\" data-label=\"https:\/\/secretldn.com\/london-february-weather-forecast-met-office\/\" data-action=\"text_cta_0\" data-category=\"click_internal\">wettest winters on record<\/a> \u2013 and I\u2019m sorry to continue to rain on your parade, but the future isn\u2019t looking too much brighter (or drier, for that matter). A recent report from Aviva has revealed that London could be acute danger of <strong>flooding and subsidence<\/strong> (the sinking of the ground beneath a property). Wonderful news, right?<\/p>\n<p>The insurance company analysed each and <strong>every parliamentary constituency<\/strong> in England, Scotland, and Wales to uncover the areas most likely to become uninsurable (and therefore uninhabitable) by <strong>2050<\/strong>. And of the top 20 most vulnerable areas,<strong> 7 of them<\/strong> are in <a href=\"https:\/\/secretldn.com\/best-things-to-do-london\/\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" target=\"_self\" class=\"shortcode-outbound-link\" data-has-ga=\"true\" data-ga-type=\"click\" data-label=\"https:\/\/secretldn.com\/best-things-to-do-london\/\" data-action=\"text_cta_1\" data-category=\"click_internal\">London<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, densely-populated areas of the capital are likely to be the worst hit. <strong>Bermondsey and Old Southwark<\/strong> topped the charts as the areas most at risk to flooding.<strong> 90.4%<\/strong> of the properties in these areas are in danger of flood damage. <strong>Vauxhall and Camberwell Green<\/strong> were the next most-vulnerable London locations, with <strong>74.5%<\/strong> of the properties at risk<strong>. 64.5%<\/strong> of the properties in <strong>Battersea<\/strong> are in danger of flooding or subsidence, and<strong> 46%<\/strong> of the properties in <strong>Peckham<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p> <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-363158 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/shutterstock_416170285.jpg\" alt=\"a blurry view of a london street through a rainy window\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\"  \/>Credit: misszin, via Shutterstock <\/p>\n<p>The report also highlighted <strong>two London landmarks<\/strong> that are at high risk of climate change-related damage. The Red House in south-east London is already experiencing some subsidence due to the fact that it was built on soil containing high-quality <strong>London Clay<\/strong>. And <a href=\"https:\/\/secretldn.com\/indian-army-exhibition-hampton-court-palace\/\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" target=\"_self\" class=\"shortcode-outbound-link\" data-has-ga=\"true\" data-ga-type=\"click\" data-label=\"https:\/\/secretldn.com\/indian-army-exhibition-hampton-court-palace\/\" data-action=\"text_cta_2\" data-category=\"click_internal\">Hampton Court Palace<\/a> is also in a rather vulnerable position due to its riverside location.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jason Storah<\/strong> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aviva.com\/newsroom\/news-releases\/2025\/10\/uks-iconic-landmarks-at-risk-from-climate-change-by-2050-according-to-new-report\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"shortcode-outbound-link\" data-has-ga=\"true\" data-ga-type=\"click\" data-label=\"https:\/\/www.aviva.com\/newsroom\/news-releases\/2025\/10\/uks-iconic-landmarks-at-risk-from-climate-change-by-2050-according-to-new-report\/\" data-action=\"text_cta_3\" data-category=\"click_non_sales\">Aviva<\/a> said: \u201cDespite the findings in our report, it is not too late to act. There is excellent work already underway across the UK, with owners, guardians, communities and councils working together to protect some of our most iconic places.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are solutions \u2013 big and small \u2013 which could help to improve the UK\u2019s climate-readiness if we take collaborative and urgent action.
