{"id":762602,"date":"2026-02-13T21:30:17","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T21:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/762602\/"},"modified":"2026-02-13T21:30:17","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T21:30:17","slug":"animated-film-tells-the-story-of-calverley-old-hall-on-the-hall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/762602\/","title":{"rendered":"Animated film tells the story of Calverley Old Hall &#8211; on the Hall!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><strong>By Anne Akers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Animated images and sounds telling the story of Calverley\u2019s historic Old Hall were projected on to the building in a film made by a Yorkshire-based artist \u2013 and visitors to September\u2019s open day.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/1000023556-900x900.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-197926\"  \/>Artist Dawn Feather<\/p>\n<p>Workshops held by Dawn Feather, who runs <a href=\"https:\/\/yorkshireedit.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yorkshire Edit<\/a>, took images inspired by the Hall created by visitors to the open day and put them together with audio made by Bradford College students. <\/p>\n<p>The short animation was played on a loop for two evenings this week.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/1000023555-900x675.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-197927\"  \/>Images which inspired the animation<\/p>\n<p>Despite the heavy rain, dozens of visitors stood to watch the show and then visit the Hall itself.<\/p>\n<p>The show is one of many events held at the hall throughout the year. Future events include a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.landmarktrust.org.uk\/support\/projects-and-appeals\/appeal-launched-calverley-old-hall\/calverley-old-hall-activities-and-events\/container\/wax-ring-carving-with-lydia-poole\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wax ring carving<\/a> workshop in March and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.landmarktrust.org.uk\/news-and-events\/opendays\/calverley-old-hall-open-days-may26\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open days in May<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Calverley Old Hall, which is owned by the Landmark Trust featured on More4\u2019s\u00a0Historic House Rescue\u00a0in May 2025. The one-hour programme, which shows how the hall was transformed, is still available on More4\u2019s view again site.<\/p>\n<p>Background<\/p>\n<p>Calverley Old Hall dates back to the 1300s. The site now includes a 14th-century Solar Block, a late 15th-early 16th\u00a0century Great Hall and Chapel (both also featuring 17th-century alterations), plus a 16th-century Parlour Block and Lodging Block. The Old Hall was acquired by the Landmark Trust\u2019s founder in 1981 with several long-term tenants still in occupation, meaning Landmark could only restore a small portion of the site (which itself operated as a holiday let between 1984 and 2021) and weatherproof the rest.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017 Landmark launched an international architectural competition to find a forward-looking and environmentally sustainable solution for the entire site, and works began in 2021. The Hall was re-opened in 2025 and is available as a a holiday let for up to 10 people. There is also a community room which can be hired, with discount rates for local organisations.
