To do so, check your prefecture\u2019s website for information on its preferred method.<\/p>\n<p data-lab-font_weight=\"\">We have identified <a href=\"https:\/\/www.connexionfrance.com\/news\/list-how-to-apply-for-brexit-card-renewals-in-different-areas-of-france\/751060\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">l<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.connexionfrance.com\/news\/list-how-to-apply-for-brexit-card-renewals-in-different-areas-of-france\/751060\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inks to prefecture information<\/a>. In some cases, simple procedures are hosted at the site D\u00e9marche Num\u00e9rique (formerly D\u00e9marches Simplifi\u00e9es).<\/p>\n<p>You should not have to hand over your old card until you are issued with the new card, officials said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A prefecture visit will be required, at which you should receive a r\u00e9c\u00e9piss\u00e9 confirming your legal residency in France for a period of months while processing of the new card is finalised.<\/p>\n<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.connexionfrance.com\/products\/visa-and-residency-cards-cartes-de-sejour-for-france-digital\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/visas2.png\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you do not apply, or leave it to the last minute, there is a risk of a period without valid proof of legal residency, which may result in admin complications and travel difficulties, especially in view of the roll-out of EES (see above).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Residency documentation is needed to show at the border to prove you are an EU resident (not a visitor) thus exempt from EES.<\/p>\n<p>It is worth knowing that your permanent residency rights in France are legally protected by the WA treaty after five years of living in France, regardless of whether you have a card.
