Sir Keir Starmer<\/a> has been accused of “secretly plotting to lock” Britain to the EU as part of his Brexit<\/a> reset. Critics said taxpayers could be forced to stump up \u201cbillions” of pounds if the UK pulls out of a future pact with Brussels<\/a>. The warning comes as the Prime Minister continues cosying up to the bloc by signing Britain up to more European schemes.<\/p>\n Fears are mounting that Sir Keir could agree to termination payments with Brussels to get the deals done. These would force the UK to pay significant costs if we ever decided to pull out. He said: \u201cThe details of any agreements, including specific clauses, are subject to ongoing negotiations with the EU.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will not provide a running commentary on the progress of those negotiations, although I would note termination provisions are routine in international agreements.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr Thomas-Symonds was responding to a question from Shadow Cabinet Office Minister Mike Wood, who said: \u201cKeir Starmer is secretly plotting to lock our country into his new deal with the EU.<\/p>\n \u201cBy agreeing to \u2018poison pill\u2019 payment terms, he will try to make it as difficult as possible to reverse the damage he does.<\/p>\n \u201cThat means more red tape, more power for unaccountable foreign bureaucrats and more disdain for the will of the British public. They are unable to come to terms with their own record.<\/p>\n “They cannot come to terms with the fact their Brexit deal sold out British businesses – we’re delivering a new deal that will do away with red tape, make trade easier and benefit British billpayers and consumers alike.<\/p>\n “They want to rip that up because they cannot bring themselves to have any relationship with Europe at all.”<\/p>\n It comes after reports that the EU was demanding a so-called \u201cFarage clause\u201d as part of an agricultural deal between Britain and Brussels amid fears a future government could renege on the pact.<\/p>\n![\"Dame](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Dame-Priti-Patel-6745890.jpg\" "\\"Dame")
