Pancakes might traditionally be a relatively simple staple, but here in Manchester our restaurants and cafes go large, with dozens of different styles, flavours and toppings to choose from<\/strong> \u2013 and we have some of the best places going in the North West.<\/strong><\/p>\n There\u2019s a pancake to suit everyone if you know where to look, from sweet to savoury, miniature to fat and thin to fluffy.<\/p>\n We\u2019ve broken down some of our favourites below to help you get your pancake<\/a><\/strong> fix all year round. Yes, it may be Shrove Tuesday is looming, but one day is hardly enough to sample them all. <\/p>\n There are some relative newcomers to check out, too. Keep reading to discover the best places for pancakes in and around Manchester.<\/p>\n Where to get really good pancakes in Manchester <\/p>\n 1. Cocoa Cabana \u2013 Didsbury and The Trafford Centre<\/p>\n If you\u2019ve got a sweet tooth, the remaining Cocoa Cabana site in West Dids<\/a><\/strong> is one of the very best places to head for some fluffy pancakes in Manchester.<\/p>\n They\u2019ve even done bottomless for Pancake Day in the past, with the only rule being you have to finish one stack before you order the next.<\/p>\n Flavours include tiramisu, Biscoff and caramel, Kinder Bueno and many more; they also have a pop-up at The Trafford Centre<\/a><\/strong> these days.<\/p>\n 2. Matcha Kyoto \u2013 Albert\/Lincoln Square<\/p>\n @the.manc<\/a> Our favourite things at @TheMatchaKyoto right now, the pink tiramisu float and creme br\u00fbl\u00e9e matcha crepes \ud83d\ude0d #manchester<\/a> #matcha<\/a> #crepes<\/a> #manchesterfood<\/a> #matchablossom<\/a> \u266c original sound \u2013 The Manc<\/a> <\/p><\/blockquote>\n Now, if you\u2019re more of a crepe person than a fluffy stack fan, then this increasingly viral and trending spot on Brazennose Street, just between two of the city\u2019s most resurgent squares, might be a good alternative for you.<\/p>\n Putting a somewhat lighter and more delicate Japanese<\/a><\/strong> twist on the classic French-style dessert, these thin but flavourful little pancakes feel like a happy medium between treating yourself and pure decadence and potential overindulgence.<\/p>\n Their creme br\u00fbl\u00e9e matcha flavoured crepe is absolutely to die for and an absolute must-try.<\/p>\n 3. Hampton and Vouis \u2013 Central and Northern Quarter<\/p>\n This cute little cafe next to Albert Square<\/a><\/strong> used to be very easy to miss, but with a second venue in the Northern Quarter now too, they\u2019re more worth seeking out than ever. Venture inside, and you\u2019ll find great coffee, a counter full of bakes from local suppliers and an excellent year-round pancake menu.<\/p>\n Here, fluffy American-style pancakes are loaded with sauce and sweet treats like Jammy Dodger biscuits, raspberries, caramel sauce and strawberry jam.<\/p>\n There\u2019s also a Lotus Biscoff stack, a special apple crumble and custard stack, Biscoff and Bueno stacks, as well as plenty more \u2013 all come with vanilla ice cream on the side.<\/p>\n 4. Lazy Sundae \u2013 Manchester Arndale<\/p>\n Now in the Arndale Centre only, but still just as delicious as ever, we visited their old N<\/a>Q<\/a><\/strong> venue for some of those airy souffl\u00e9 pancakes more than once over the years.<\/p>\n It\u2019s a popular order in Japan and, increasingly, across the globe, and they offer personalised toppings like wafers, chocolate sprinkles, fruit and ice cream to make this special, puffed-up pancake your own \u2013 or at least they used to.<\/p>\n There\u2019s still no word as to when they\u2019ll be doing them regularly from the stall in the Arndale<\/a><\/strong>, but who knows? Maybe they\u2019ll make a special exception this Pancake Day; plus, they\u2019re great at catering to vegans and the lactose intolerant, too. <\/p>\n Love these guys.<\/p>\n 5. Fluffy Fluffy \u2013 Central<\/p>\n There are more fat, fluffy, wobbly pancakes to be found at Fluffy Fluffy<\/a><\/strong> (formerly known as Fuwa Fuwa), on Whitworth Street.<\/p>\n These are traditional handcrafted souffl\u00e9 pancakes topped with flavours like matcha tiramisu, raspberry banana, and blueberry.<\/p>\n Some of the best jiggle you\u2019ll find in town during work hours\u2026<\/p>\n 6. Sugar Junction \u2013 Northern Quarter<\/p>\n Next up is another NQ spot that often gets forgotten about, perhaps because it\u2019s down the \u2018quieter\u2019 stretch of Tib Street that is so typically busy with deliveries and cut-through traffic that people just want it pedestrianised<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n However, if you haven\u2019t tried Sugar Junction before, you\u2019re seriously missing out. It also happens to be \u2018r Amy\u2019s favourite, and trust us, this girl knows what she\u2019s talking about.<\/p>\n The rest of their menu is also jam-packed with all the sugary goodies you\u2019d expect from a gaff with this name, but it\u2019s well worth a visit if you want your pancakes just about as sweet as they come.<\/p>\n 7. Moose Coffee \u2013 Piccadilly Approach and Central<\/p>\n Canadians are famous for their pancakes, and the selection at Moose<\/a><\/strong> in Manchester is up there with the best. Made fresh to order, think a stack of three dusted with icing sugar and served with Canadian butter.<\/p>\n Whether you opt for savoury or sweet toppings, maple syrup on the side is pretty much a given (yes, even with your eggs and bacon), and we\u2019re absolutely here for it.<\/p>\n The only thing that could make it more authentic is if the staff often split the bill for you unrequested. A nice little touch.<\/p>\n 8. Ezra and Gil<\/p>\n In at number eight is arguably one of the original contemporary brunch spots during Greater Manchester\u2019s biggest foodie boom over the past decade, Ezra and Gil<\/a><\/strong>, who smash both day and night when given the chance.<\/p>\n They\u2019re another one of those where you\u2019ll always find a queue coming out the door and for good reason, as they\u2019ve been reinventing the pancake game here in the city centre for a long time.<\/p>\n We\u2019ve been Ezra and Gil die-hards since day one. Exhibit A:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Still as good now as it was back then.<\/p>\n 9. 19 Cafe Bar<\/p>\n This blink-and-you \u2018ll-miss-it spot has become an absolute go-to for naughty pancakes, thanks to its chocolate bar-laden menu.<\/p>\n The Biscoff and Kinder Bueno pancakes are the big draws here at 19 Cafe Bar. Loaded with the likes of Biscoff crumb and spread, banana, ice cream and salted caramel sauce, or homemade Kinder sauce, Bueno, chocolate sauce, roasted hazelnuts and vanilla ice cream.<\/p>\n There are healthier pancake options, too, and a strong list of brunch cocktails available from the bar. Familiar Brett from our \u2018On The Street\u2019<\/a><\/strong> series is a big fan:<\/p>\n\n 10. The Koffee Pot<\/p>\n A greasy spoon cafe, but make it Northern Quarter. <\/p>\n The Koffee Pot<\/a><\/strong> has long been a go-to breakfast spot, way before it moved up from Stevenson Square to its newer premises on Oldham Street.<\/p>\n It\u2019s been known for fry-ups and breakfast tacos for nearly half a century now, but you can get a solid pancake stack here, too. Think all-American buttermilk pancake stacks with added sausage patty, smoked streaky bacon, hash brown, fried egg and maple syrup.<\/p>\n It\u2019s basically a full English in a pancake stack, and who doesn\u2019t want that?<\/p>\n 11. Evelyn\u2019s <\/p>\n Another trendy cafe in the Northern Quarter with a beyond solid brunch menu, including indulgent buttermilk souffl\u00e9 pancakes loaded with honeycomb butter and a spiced berry compote, just to name one of our all-time favourites.<\/p>\n Better still, they always do a super-rich and irresistible special every Shrove Tuesday; past concoctions include Nutella and strawberry, date caramel and banana with a spiced apple compote. Wow.<\/p>\n Washed down with a coffee or a brunch cocktail<\/a><\/strong>, you can\u2019t go wrong with one of the GOATs.<\/p>\n\n 12. Bruncho \u2013 Deansgate<\/p>\n Our penultimate pick of top-tier present-day pancake houses in central Manchester is the ever-filing out the door, Bruncho, who work magic with their Middle Eastern twists on brunch staples.<\/p>\n It happens to be the favourite not only of Audio North\u2018s Thomas<\/a><\/strong>, but our very own Hollie, too, who both really like this spot for different reasons.<\/p>\n This spot also serves as just one stop among Deansgate\u2019s growing brunch triangle. In fact, make that quadrangle \u2013 quitangle? Not sure, all we know is there\u2019s a lot to choose from along here, and plenty serving pancakes.<\/p>\n 13. Leo and Roobs \u2013 Salford<\/p>\n Just over on the edge of Salford, as you leave the glitzy reaches of Spinningfields<\/a><\/strong> behind, this beloved breakfast spot has become increasingly popular since it opened back in June 2024.<\/p>\n They\u2019re not for solid coffee, great deals on various brunchy bits, and in case you didn\u2019t know, some very tasty pancakes. Specifically, that tiramisu one you might have heard about, which is nothing short of unreal\u2026<\/p>\n For context, when we asked our resident taste-tester EmJ on the day what she made of it, all she could repeat was \u201cBANGIN’\u201d. Says it all really, doesn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n And that\u2019s our list and now yours, covering some of the very best places for pancakes in central Manchester and a little bit further.<\/p>\n Why 13, we hear you ask? Well, because we expect to eat at least a baker\u2019s dozen ourselves over the course of the 24 hours.<\/p>\n If that sounds like too much for you, then you\u2019ve got the best part of 12 months to up your game until the time the next Pancake Day rolls around.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/p>\n For all the latest news, events and goings on in Greater Manchester,\u00a0<\/strong>subscribe to The Manc newsletter HERE<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n Featured Images \u2014 The Manc Group<\/strong><\/p>\n Eats<\/p>\n First Look: Matcha Made and The Trafford Centre makes for a perfect marriage<\/p>\n Greater Manchester\u2019s newest matcha spot just dropped, and we know it\u2019s an easy pun, but it really does feel like a match made in heaven.<\/strong><\/p>\n Just picture the scene: there\u2019s a big birthday or holiday coming up, so you\u2019ve arrived at The Trafford Centre<\/a><\/strong> early to get in a full day of shopping, eating and being generally leisurely \u2013 but you need an early caffeine fix and maybe some light, fluffy yet still filling pastry to keep you going.<\/p>\n There are very few places better to start this kind of day than at Matcha Made, who\u2019ve just opened up in the North West\u2019s massive and most famous shopping mall.<\/p>\n Fronted by a lovely lineup of smiling staff who couldn\u2019t do enough for you and are more than happy to give you advice or simply plug their own recommendations, we can see ourselves coming back here for the service alone.<\/p>\n They\u2019ve arrived in the big leisure complex just in time for February half-term, too, meaning any parents needing an alternative caffeine hit can fuel up right here.<\/p>\n Specialising in the Japanese<\/a><\/strong> and super healthy green tea craze that currently has the UK in a chokehold, only directly out of a tap \u2013 almost like a zen twist of draught beer taps \u2013 the art is not only in how green the raw matcha itself tastes but in the flavours and finishing touches.<\/p>\n This stylish pastel green hatch might not be the only place to get your matcha on in The Trafford Centre, but it might just be the best already.<\/p>\n It was immediately apparent that the staff had a clear favourite: the Biscoff foam version, but they said their simple but sweet and satisfying strawberry one has also proved to be one of the most popular.<\/p>\n There\u2019s plenty of fruity options to choose from; they\u2019ve got their own take on the fellow contemporary trend of banana pudding for anyone looking for a fix, and even ume plum<\/a><\/strong>, or you can just go for a straight-up coffee or hot chocolate as well.<\/p>\n So yeah, even if your partner isn\u2019t quite ready to admit they\u2019re a secret \u2018matcha girlie\u2019, then they can spend a little bit more time lying to themselves over this side of the menu.<\/p>\n Whether you want it topped with cream, shavings or a light dusting of cocoa powder, you can make this little drink just about as decorative as you like.<\/p>\n Besides being more reasonably priced than we were expecting, given the ongoing matcha boom, you\u2019ve also got the big bonus of a fridge stocked with bakes from local favourite La Chouqette<\/a><\/strong>.
