Prince William<\/a><\/strong> and Prince Harry<\/a><\/strong> have been on shaky terms for a long time now, and nothing lately suggests that\u2019s changing anytime soon.<\/p>\n

The fallout really took off after Harry and Meghan Markle<\/a> stepped away from royal duties in 2020. Since then, the monarchy itself has also been in a period of transition.<\/p>\n

According to someone who once worked closely with Princess Diana<\/a>, William\u2019s future as king may be the biggest reason he\u2019s keeping his brother at a distance.<\/p>\n

Princess Diana\u2019s former butler, Paul Burrell<\/a>, believes the growing gap between the brothers is more deliberate than many people think. \u201cI think William has distanced himself from Harry a lot more than people realize,\u201d he told Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He said William\u2019s focus has shifted as he prepares for the throne. \u201cBecause William\u2019s path is very different from Harry\u2019s. As he gets nearer and nearer to the throne, which will be in a few years, he has to remain isolated. He has to be in a world that is very tight and protected,\u201d he explained. He also noted that William \u201ccan\u2019t let things leak out<\/a>\u201d and \u201cdoesn\u2019t want to live in a world with a leaky sieve.\u201d<\/p>\n

To Paul, that level of control<\/a> just comes with the role. \u201c[William] doesn\u2019t want to live in a world that can\u2019t be controlled because, to be a monarch, you have to control the environment. You have to look after the crown,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He did give Harry some credit, saying stepping away from royal life had to be tough. \u201cI do applaud Harry\u2019s move,\u201d the former butler said. Still, he does not expect a reconciliation anytime soon<\/a>. \u201cBut I don\u2019t think there\u2019s any room for reconciliation. I don\u2019t think that is [happening] anytime soon, if ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paul believes the public fallout created lasting damage. \u201cBecause you see, too many words have been said, and too much dirty laundry has been laundered in public, really, for the royal family. That\u2019s unforgivable,\u201d he added. \u201cHarry knew the rules.\u201d<\/p>\n
