Emmanuel Petit<\/a> has urged Arsenal<\/a> to pursue the \u2018statement\u2019 signing of Julian Alvarez<\/a> as speculation intensifies over his long-term future at Atletico Madrid<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alvarez has enjoyed a productive spell in the Spanish capital since his\u00a0\u00a382m move from Manchester City<\/a>, scoring 29 goals during his first season at Atletico.<\/p>\n

However, there appears to be growing interest in the\u00a0Argentina<\/a> international ahead of next summer\u2019s transfer window.<\/p>\n

Alvarez has been linked with a return to the Premier League<\/a>, with reports in Argentina suggesting that Chelsea<\/a> are \u2018advancing\u2019 in talks to sign the striker.<\/a><\/p>\n

Barcelona are also credited with interest in Alvarez, while Arsenal are also said to be mulling a move for the former City striker, who could cost in excess of \u20ac100million (\u00a386m).<\/p>\n

The Gunners may have the upper hand in any negotiations, given their sporting director\u00a0Andrea Berta<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0was the person who oversaw Alvarez\u2019s move from City to the Wanda Metropolitano in the summer of 2024.<\/p>\n

And former Arsenal midfielder Petit believes the club should make it a priority to sign Alvarez this summer, insisting the 25-year-old has \u2018everything\u2019 needed to be a success under Mikel Arteta.<\/p>\n

\u2018When Julian Alvarez was playing for City, I really liked him,\u2019 Petit told Ignition Casino<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u2018He didn\u2019t start every single game but every time he played for City, and for Atletico as well since, he has been really special.<\/p>\n

\u2018He can score goals and give assists, but he\u2019s got temper, personality, and character. I think in terms of movement he is very intelligent. <\/p>\n

\u2018Physically as well, he\u2019s a top player and technically, he\u2019s got everything to suit the best clubs in Europe.<\/p>\n

\u2018The reason why he left City was because he wanted to play regular football, but I think Pep Guardiola would be very happy to have him back in the squad.<\/p>\n

\u2018So definitely, if Arsenal have a chance to get him, with the connection with the Spanish players and the way they play up front, I think that would be great news for Arsenal. <\/p>\n

\u2018That would be a very, very good addition to the squad and a statement.\u2019<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Barcelona\u00a0defender Ronald Araujo insisted that Alvarez is the calibre of player who \u2018belongs\u2019 at the Catalan club.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u2018He\u2019s a great player; for me, he\u2019s one of the best strikers in the world. You can see the quality he has,\u2019 Araujo said of Alvarez, speaking to Mundo Deportivo.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u2018The best players belong at the best club, which is us. That\u2019s obvious. But it\u2019s not my job to do that or make that decision.\u2019<\/p>\n
