There were only two carts going \u2026 we had stood in the line for easily an hour,\u201d the woman said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cPeople were starting to get anxious. Lots of people were saying, \u2018Well, I\u2019m just going to have to try and walk\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">Having a toileting disability, the woman\u2019s distress grew as they waited for a ride and learnt the on-site portable lavatory had been locked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cWhat we were concerned about was, because we\u2019d seen people using it, had someone collapsed in there?\u201d the woman said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cI got the man in charge of all this and I said, \u2018Look, we need a key, we need to check there\u2019s no one had a medical event in there\u2019. <\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cAnd he said, \u2018Well, we don\u2019t have one\u2019 &#8230; he was a young chap \u2013 I\u2019m not putting age against him \u2013 but I don\u2019t think he quite realised the implications.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">The woman alleged traffic management workers contracted for the event told her to complain to Eden Park officials about the mobility parking conditions.<\/p>\n<p><img  alt=\"One attendee at last night's event says they queued for more than an hour at the accessible parking area for the short cart ride to Eden Park. Photo \/ Jared Tinetti<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">Sautner said Eden Park had strategically placed amenities \u201csuch as Portaloos and other support services throughout the precinct\u201d, as well as \u201cwheelchairs available on site, cadets positioned at the top of stairwells to assist patrons, and support teams to provide guidance and assistance where needed\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cFor this event, we had over 300 mobility car parks available for patrons with disability passes, alongside two dedicated drop-off and pick-up points that are located adjacent to the stadium,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cIn addition to the fleet of golf carts operating around the venue, we had eight golf carts assigned specifically to transport patrons from the mobility parking area to their respective gates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">Still, the woman alleged organisers were \u201ctotally underprepared\u201d to cater for the crowd\u2019s older demographics, and seats and shelter should have been provided for those waiting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThere were 80 to 90 year olds in those queues,\u201d the woman said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cYou just don\u2019t treat vulnerable people like this. Photo \/ Jared Tinetti<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThere\u2019s a bus stop by the driveway, she sat there and just cried,\u201d the woman said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">Sautner said the level of dedicated mobility parking, transport assistance and on-the-ground support for the Tattoo went beyond the standard observed at comparable international stadiums.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cAs New Zealand\u2019s national stadium and the country\u2019s only venue capable of hosting crowds in excess of 50,000, Eden Park regularly delivers major international events at scale,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cFor events of this nature, we plan and resource our operations carefully.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">Venue staff remained \u201ccommitted to continually improving the fan experience and welcome constructive feedback to ensure we are delivering the highest standard of service for everyone who comes through our gates\u201d, Sautner said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cWith an expected crowd of more than 25,000 people, all event communications strongly encouraged patrons to arrive early to minimise congestion and allow sufficient time to access the venue comfortably.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, performed by more than 1000 members from the British Armed Forces and Commonwealth military bands, typically takes place throughout August on the forecourt of Edinburgh Castle in the Scottish capital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">Despite a history of touring New Zealand, the Tattoo has only ever been hosted in Wellington, making its three-stop tour of Eden Park unprecedented for Auckland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">The Herald\u2019s Mitchell Hageman, who watched the Tattoo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/entertainment\/royal-edinburgh-military-tattoo-eden-park-review-how-it-compares-to-the-scottish-original\/75OJDDH52NHZBOXVP3BAY54DKQ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/entertainment\/royal-edinburgh-military-tattoo-eden-park-review-how-it-compares-to-the-scottish-original\/75OJDDH52NHZBOXVP3BAY54DKQ\/\">at Eden Park<\/a> last night and at its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/entertainment\/review-the-royal-edinburgh-military-tattoo-why-you-should-go-to-the-eden-park-shows-in-february-2026\/KANRPJPG6JBUNIQSLIQW6U6BYE\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/entertainment\/review-the-royal-edinburgh-military-tattoo-why-you-should-go-to-the-eden-park-shows-in-february-2026\/KANRPJPG6JBUNIQSLIQW6U6BYE\/\">spiritual home of Edinburgh Castle<\/a>, said the local instalment delivers \u201call the world-class bells and whistles the show has built its solid reputation on, with a special sprinkling of Kiwi flavour adding to the magic\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\">The second and third Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo shows will take place at Eden Park tonight and tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nfOBuVOCysHhj\" style=\"display:none\"><b>Tom Rose is an Auckland-based journalist who covers breaking news, specialising in lifestyle, entertainment and travel.
