Harry\u2019s interview came after his landmark loss in the duke\u2019s ongoing battle for security<\/a> in the U.K. Harry and wife Meghan Markle<\/strong>\u2019s government-funded protection was removed after they departed from the royal family in 2020 and moved to the United States. During the BBC sitdown<\/a>, Harry shared that his father could have affected the issue\u2019s outcome.<\/p>\n

The source explains that Harry, 40, \u201cbroke the cardinal Royal family rule\u201d which is to \u201cnever explain and never complain\u201d after he wrote his memoir Spare, filmed his Netflix documentary with Meghan, 43, and has given several tell-all interviews \u2014 including Harry\u2019s recent sitdown with BBC. The insider adds that Harry\u2019s decision to speak out was \u201crisky,\u201d reminding many of his late mother Princess Diana<\/strong>, who similarly laid bare her personal issues with the royal family and in her marriage to then-Prince Charles.<\/p>\n

\u201cHarry did what his mother did and it\u2019s impossible to come back into the fold after that,\u201d the source adds. \u201cSo everyone around Charles isn\u2019t keen on him reaching out to Harry. They understand it\u2019s a father-son relationship but the family is so complicated, and issues of the monarchy often supersede personal relationships.\u201d<\/p>\n

The insider says that many at the palace have found it \u201churtful\u201d that Harry publicly spoke about Charles\u2019 current health struggle. The monarch announced in February 2024 he was battling an undisclosed type of cancer<\/a> after \u201cundergoing a procedure for benign prostate enlargement,\u201d per a statement from Buckingham Palace at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone at the palace is upset that Harry said he doesn\u2019t know how long Charles will live,\u201d the source tells Us. \u201cIt\u2019s OK for King Charles to talk about his own health.\u201d<\/p>\n

If Charles had any inclination to reach out to Harry \u2014 and I haven\u2019t seen any movement in that direction over the past two years \u2014 then he certainly has no reason to reach out now.\u201d Andersen told Us on Monday, May 5. \u201cI hate to say it, but I seriously doubt that the relationship between the King and Prince Harry will ever be resolved. \u201cThis process has only ever been about ensuring my safety and that of my immediate family when we are in the United Kingdom, so that we may safely visit my home country with the same level of security that other governments deem necessary for our protection,\u201d he wrote via a statement shared via his and Meghan\u2019s website. \u201cMy ask has been simple: that the standard protocols for security and risk assessments be applied to me in the same way they are to others \u2014 including people who have never carried out any public functions on behalf of the State.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andersen noted that while Harry is \u201csavvy\u201d the Duke of Sussex has an \u201cimpulsive streak and probably regrets\u201d those comments. However, any remorse might be too late.<\/p>\n
