Unless you and your cousin share custody of a Grammy<\/a>, Baby Keem<\/a> and Kendrick Lamar<\/a> aren\u2019t the most relatable relatives. But every new song they drop together sounds more and more like the archetypal kids-table hang: all shenanigans, no qualms. Whether they\u2019re ad-libbing around Dodger Stadium<\/a> or threatening to punch you in the face<\/a>, their playful familiarity regularly results in their most fun work.<\/p>\n

They continue this streak on \u201cGood Flirts,\u201d a track on Keem\u2019s new album Ca$ino about an on-again, off-again boo that has a sweet, distinctly juvenile quality. It\u2019s in the downtempo Motown beat, so FM-radio-ready it would bring a tear to Berry Gordy\u2019s eye. It\u2019s in the schoolyard call-and-response with New York singer Momo Boyd, who coolly inhabits her MC Lyte<\/a> bag in the face of two exasperating musketeers. It\u2019s in Keem\u2019s warbly-to-the-max refrain, delivered in a cooed cadence that\u2019s equal parts Fabolous on \u201dShawty Is Da Shit<\/a>\u201d and The Chainsmokers\u2019 \u201cCloser<\/a>\u201d (I wasn\u2019t kidding about the radio).<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s most apparent in Kendrick\u2019s verse, which splits the difference between adorkable flirtation (\u201cFuck a friend zone when you hug like this\u201d) and winking digs (\u201cShit, I gossip with my bitch like I\u2019m Young Thug too.) \u201cNever too late to meditate on emotional attachments,\u201d he muses before complimenting his paramour\u2019s wagon eight times. It\u2019s as if, worn out from the giddy romp of \u201cThe Hillbillies,\u201d Keem and Kendrick posted up back home, made sure their parents were asleep, and started talking about women, man.<\/p>\n

In a documentary short<\/a> Keem released during the Ca$ino rollout, Kendrick spoke on their family, describing \u201ca warfare, psychologically, to try and change our generational curses.\u201d In their solo work, the pair don\u2019t<\/a> shy<\/a> away<\/a> from tackling the heavier aspects of their shared history.
