But the sign of a popular venue doesn&#8217;t only point to the amount of clubbers who went there &#8211; but also how worn it looked in its final days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Often open for decades, a number of our <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/clubs\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"much-loved nightclubs Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">much-loved nightclubs <\/a>of the past saw thousands from the city and beyond pass through their doors. And they also became known for their fair share of graffiti, outdated d\u00e9cor &#8211; and of course, sticky floors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Most weekends, clubbers would head to their favourite haunt but ultimately would experience their shoes sticking to the spilt drinks and more built up on the carpets or hard floors. See how many you remember in our list below.<\/p>\n<p>The Cabin Club<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/JS72104186.jpg\" alt=\"he Cabin Club, Berry Street\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The Cabin Club, Berry Street<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/nostalgia\/chapters-liverpool-venue-steeped-history-27799174\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Most ECHO readers nominated The Cabin ClubLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Most ECHO readers nominated The Cabin Club<\/a> &#8211; which they claim was known as &#8220;the bin&#8221; or &#8220;the tacky mat.&#8221; Located on in the Havelock Building on the corner of Berry Street and Bold Street, this lost nightclub is also remembered for its membership cards, handing out lollipops on the doors and its incredible atmosphere amongst many things.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Cabin also claimed to be the inspiration for The Beatles\u2019 song Don\u2019t Bother Me. By 2015, the venue closed and over the years attracted different developments and plans before re-opening as Jimmy&#8217;s in 2019 and<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink-news\/gallery\/inside-new-bold-street-thai-30725872\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> Mee Japanese and Thai Street Food in 2024.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The SHE Club<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1_JS258194386.jpg\" alt=\"The She Club, Victoria Street, Liverpool, October 12, 1978\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The She Club on Victoria Street. October 12, 1978(Image: Mirrorpix)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Located on Victoria Street, next on the list is The SHE club, which opened in 1971. <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/nostalgia\/liverpool-city-centre-hotspot-known-26730090\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Known for its disco and cabaret lounge, Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Known for its disco and cabaret lounge, <\/a>in its heyday, numerous Mersey groups and comedians appeared there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But after almost reaching the 20 year milestone, the She Club on Victoria Street closed in 1989. Years after its closure, the site became The Living Room\/Mosquito\/Vampire, then Sugar Hut and the site is now home to restaurant Dash and XOXO nightclub<\/p>\n<p>Krazyhouse<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_JS263318998.jpg\" alt=\"Krazyhouse, Liverpool, 2008\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Krazyhouse, Liverpool, circa 2008(Image: Google Maps)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In the early 1990s, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/nostalgia\/liverpools-lost-adult-funhouse-like-23757009\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"The Krazyhouse on Wood Street burst onto the city-centre scene, Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">The Krazyhouse on Wood Street burst onto the city-centre scene, <\/a>becoming famous for its indie, rock and alternative scene. Synonymous with Liverpool students, it was affectionately known as the K!.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But in 2018, the closure of the nightclub was lamented by many as the end of an era. The club, fondly remembered as &#8220;The Beachy,&#8221; was opened back in the mid-1960s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It was businessman Jim Ireland, who also associated with other popular venues in the city such as <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/nostalgia\/lost-liverpool-nightclub-loved-hundreds-26740475\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"the Mardi Gras on Mount PleasantLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">the Mardi Gras on Mount Pleasant<\/a> and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/city-centre-building-once-home-29629218\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"the Albany in Old Hall StreetLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">the Albany in Old Hall Street<\/a>, who had the idea behind the club. In its time, the club also<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/nostalgia\/fabulous-liverpool-nightclub-favourite-many-30227291\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" attracted a number of famous faces.Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> attracted a number of famous faces.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mardi Gras<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/4_JS240338391.jpg\" alt=\"The Twist at the Mardi Gras, Liverpool. May 10, 1959(Image: Mirrorpix)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Opening its doors to Merseyside teenagers on September 28, 1957, customers were surrounded by walls decorated with Beat City murals by Liverpool artist Bob Percival at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/nostalgia\/lost-liverpool-nightclub-loved-hundreds-26740475\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Mardi Gras.Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Mardi Gras.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The likes of The Beatles, the Big Three, Gerry and the Pacemakers and Cilla Black are also said to have gone there, and many a clubber danced on its sticky floor. Originally a church, the building was demolished in the 1970s.<\/p>\n<p>Pickwicks<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/2_JS294557447.jpg\" alt=\"View of Mr. Pickwick's Nightclub, Fraser Street, L3, showing the exterior, 1979\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Mr. Pickwick&#8217;s Nightclub, Fraser Street, circa 1979(Image: Liverpool City Council)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Some ECHO readers suggested Pickwicks, which they say was nicknamed &#8220;sticky pickys.&#8221; <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/nostalgia\/lost-liverpool-nightclub-filled-a-26522381\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Also known as Mr Pickwicks, Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Also known as Mr Pickwicks, <\/a>the club on Fraser Street near London Road first opened its doors in May 1972.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Through the 70s, 80s and 90s, Pickwicks continued to attract clubbers from across Merseyside. But after nearly 30 years in business, Pickwicks was no more and was replaced by a new dance club called Heaven.<\/p>\n<p>The Grafton<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1_JS180156813.jpg\" alt=\"The Grafton on West Derby Road\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The Grafton on West Derby Road<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/nostalgia\/went-inside-legendary-venue-grafton-31335787\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"The Grafton on West Derby Road Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">The Grafton on West Derby Road <\/a>opened in 1924 and was once a thriving dance hall next to what is now known as the Liverpool Olympia. By the 1970s, it was extremely popular and was the setting for the famous \u201cgrab a granny\u201d Thursday nights, which were launched during the decade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In But in later years, it was a comedy club before closing down permanently. It later became The Venue in the early 90\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Pez Espada<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In the 1970s, many Merseyside clubbers headed to the Pez Espada.
