Three Liverpool stars labelled Trent Alexander-Arnold “legend” after he announced his Anfield exit. <\/a>The England star has confirmed his decision to depart this summer on a free transfer, with the expectation that he will join Real Madrid<\/a>.<\/p>\n The 26-year-old confirmed on Monday he would be ending his 20-year association with the club.<\/a> Alexander-Arnold said opting to leave Liverpool<\/a> was \u201ceasily the hardest decision\u201d he had made in his life but that he was keen to push himself, go out of his comfort zone and try something new.<\/p>\n It’s expected that Alexander-Arnold will join Spanish giants Real Madrid. He will join England team-mate Jude Bellingham<\/a> in the Spanish capital.<\/p>\n Curtis Jones, Cody Gakpo<\/a> and Andy Robertson all chose to describe him as a \u201clegend\u201d in Instagram<\/a> posts on Monday, as they paid tribute publicly to the two-time Premier League<\/a> winner. Scotland<\/a> captain Robertson added: \u201cBrother for life!! We\u2019ve been through it all together!\u201d<\/p>\n Harvey Elliott, whose own Anfield future is in question this summer after starting just one Premier League game all season – and that on Sunday – wrote: \u201cUnbelievable player! Even better guy. Trent Alexander-Arnold<\/a> Enjoy it brother. Trent Alexander-Arnold.\u201d<\/p>\n While Liverpool’s players paid tribute, Jamie Carragher<\/a> – who made 737 appearances for the club in all competitions during his career as a one-club man, says Alexander-Arnold\u2019s contribution to the club \u201cwill never be diminished\u201d, but believes it will change how he is remembered and thought of by fans.<\/p>\n \u201cPlayers are loved even more when they genuinely mean it when they say they do not want to play for anyone else,\u201d Carragher wrote in a column in The Telegraph. \u201cIf that image of the home-grown talent living the dream is an illusion, people feel let down.<\/p>\n \u201cBy leaving Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold is making it harder for his own club to win its 21st league title and seventh European Cup. That is bound to stir emotions. With Monday\u2019s statement, the unconditional support Alexander-Arnold enjoyed from the Kop when he was fully committed to Liverpool has gone.\u201d<\/p>\n Carragher insisted he was not angry with Alexander-Arnold for leaving Anfield, but expressed disappointment that the prospect of further success was not enough to keep him at the club.<\/p>\n \u201cMy thing with Trent is, it\u2019s his career, he\u2019s free to choose what he\u2019s going to do and he\u2019s going to the biggest club in the world<\/a>,\u201d Carragher said during Monday Night Football<\/a> on Sky Sports<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m not angry, I\u2019m more just disappointed that as a local player, he doesn\u2019t think Liverpool\u2019s enough when it\u2019s winning.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve had players in the past who\u2019ve left, Steve McManaman, Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard<\/a> almost left, but that was because they were playing for Liverpool teams who weren\u2019t as good as this Liverpool team.<\/p>\n \u201cThis Liverpool team is arguably among the best five or six teams in Europe, just won the Premier League and could be on the verge of something special over the next five or six years.<\/p>\n \u201cThey are looking like they could have an era of domination maybe and win a lot of big trophies and that\u2019s not enough for him.\u201d<\/p>\n Liverpool\u2019s 2020 Premier League-winning skipper Jordan Henderson posted: \u201cWhat a journey!!
