Conan O\u2019Brien has finally weighed in on the deaths of friends Rob and Michele Reiner after they famously attended his annual Christmas party<\/a> in Los Angeles the night before their murders on Dec. 14, 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just so awful,\u201d he told the New Yorker <\/a>in a newly published interview. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I think about how Rob felt about things that are happening in the country, how involved he was, how much he put himself out there\u2014and to have that voice go quiet in an instant is still hard for me to comprehend.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also reflected on his relationship with the iconic \u201cPrincess Bride\u201d director and his wife. <\/p>\n

\u201cI knew Rob and Michele, and then increasingly got closer and closer to them, and I was seeing them a lot,\u201d he shared. <\/p>\n

\u201cMy wife and I were seeing them a lot, and they were so\u2014they were just such lovely people. And to have that experience of saying good night to somebody and having them leave and then find out the next day that they\u2019re gone. . . . I think I was in shock for quite a while afterward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rob and Michele\u2019s daughter, Romy, found the couple\u00a0stabbed to death<\/a>\u00a0in their home on Dec. 14. Rob was 78 and Michele was 70.<\/p>\n

It was revealed at the time that their deaths occurred after\u00a0they had argued with their son Nick<\/a>\u00a0at O\u2019Brien\u2019s holiday party the previous night.<\/p>\n

Nick, 32, was\u00a0arrested<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0charged with two counts of first-degree murder<\/a>\u00a0with a special circumstance of multiple murders. <\/p>\n

The aspiring director faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. <\/p>\n

It was subsequently revealed that their son Nick, seen here with the Reiner family at the Los Angeles Premiere of \u201dSpinal Tap II: The End Continues\u201d in September 2025, had argued with his parents at a holiday party thrown by O\u2019Brien. REUTERS<\/p>\n

He was being medicated for diagnosed schizophrenia<\/a>; however, the medication had the effect of making him \u201cout of his head.\u201d Nick also\u00a0has a long history of drug addiction<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Nick was scheduled to be arraigned last month. However, his lawyer \u2014 famed criminal defense attorney Alan Jackson \u2014 quit the case just before the court hearing<\/a> on Jan. 7. The arraignment has been rescheduled for Monday.<\/p>\n

Jackson later discussed his reasons for dropping the case<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a confidential communication between a lot of folks that I\u2019m not willing to disclose,\u201d he told\u00a0Billy Bush during a January appearance on the \u201cHot Mic\u201d podcast. <\/p>\n

When Bush asked if it had to do with money, Jackson responded, \u201cYou can\u2019t say that something happened with the retainer because I\u2019ve never said that.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, something happened with my ability, and my team\u2019s ability, to continue the representation, but I don\u2019t want you, your audience or anybody else to start speculating as to what that might be,\u201d he added. \u201cI have not said a word about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jackson continued, \u201cOnce I\u2019m done, I\u2019m done.
