Residents living in leafy Edgbaston have raised concerns over a road which appears to be “sinking”.<\/p>\n

Councillors for the area, Matt Bennett and Deirdre Alden, are “very concerned” along with locals about Westfield Road<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The sunken street, which could prove hazardous for drivers, is yet to be repaired despite being reported to Birmingham City Council<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n

That was according to Cllr Bennett who fears the “sinking” street, with cracks all around, is “getting worse”.<\/p>\n

Writing on neighbourhood website Nextdoor, he said: “A number of residents have raised concerns about what appears to be a sinking area on Westfield Road.<\/p>\n

“It was originally reported last year and it does seem to be getting worse.<\/p>\n

“We’re very concerned and have raised it a number of times. The council says it will be repaired by June.”<\/p>\n

We have contacted the council asking it to confirm if and when the road will be repaired.<\/p>\n

Mr Bennett told BirminghamLive<\/a> that the ditch in the road “became very noticeable last year”.<\/p>\n

“You can’t fail to notice it when you drive over it,” he said.<\/p>\n

“It was marked up for repair so I didn’t chase it for a while. The standard [council] response said that it would be done ‘in the coming months’.<\/p>\n

“However, as time went by, it got worse and there was no sign of a repair.<\/p>\n

“Upon chasing, I was told it would be done in June because that was a year after it was reported.”<\/p>\n

Mr Bennett said he’s concerned the street would need to “actually sink” before action was taken.<\/p>\n

He added: “This timescale for repairs is becoming more and more common. Everything reported is a low priority.<\/p>\n
