{"id":783661,"date":"2026-02-23T12:37:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T12:37:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/783661\/"},"modified":"2026-02-23T12:37:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T12:37:13","slug":"uk-alcohol-tax-revenue-falls-by-285-million-drinks-international","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/783661\/","title":{"rendered":"UK alcohol tax revenue falls by \u00a3285 million &#8211; Drinks International"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 4% decline takes total alcohol duty receipts for the provisional 2025 to 2026 financial year to date to \u00a37 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Receipt for the period showed that alcohol duty from wine and other declined by \u00a3100 million (4%), duty from beer sales declined by \u00a359 million (3%), while receipts from cider increased by \u00a330 million (21%).<\/p>\n<p>Spirits were the hardest hit category with duty declines of \u00a3156 million (7%).\u00a0The fall in revenue follows an increase of 17% imposed on spirits since 1 August 2023.<\/p>\n<p>In November, the <a href=\"https:\/\/drinksint.com\/news\/fullstory.php\/aid\/12076\/UK_alcohol_duty_to_rise_with_inflation.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UK chancellor announced that alcohol duty would rise in line with the Retail Price Index<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, chief executive of the WSTA, Miles Beale, said: \u201cThis Budget has been dubbed a death by a thousand cuts, and for wine and spirit businesses those cuts run deep.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite the Office for Budget Responsibility at last acknowledging that higher prices lead to a decline in receipts, the Government fails to recognise that its own policy is driving up those prices.
