Dimitrov now admits what has been \u2018very weird\u2019 about his 2025 ATP season"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Grigor Dimitrov is searching for another strong performance in Monte-Carlo, having reached two previous semi-finals.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Bulgarian star has won just one clay court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP<\/a> title since turning professional 18 years ago and would no doubt love to add to his tally in the principality.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/grigor-dimitrov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dimitrov<\/a> began his campaign with a big win over 2024 Italian Open finalist Nicolas Jarry, 6-3, 6-4.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/GettyImages-2208553835-1024x683.jpg\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/monte-carlo-masters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monte-Carlo Masters<\/a>, the 33-year-old will take on home favorite Valentin Vacherot.<\/p>\n<p>Following his opening win, Dimitrov reflected on what has been a difficult start to his 2025 season.<\/p>\n<p>Grigor Dimitrov says his \u2018stop and go\u2019 2025 ATP season has been \u2018very weird and strange\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Tennis Channel after his win over Jarry, Dimitrov looked back on the first few months of the year.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe beginning of the year, very weird and strange at the same time, it was just stop and go, I wasn\u2019t able to compete well in any of the tournaments,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy movement was also a little bit off, so there\u2019s so many things that were going against it but you have to stay strong, in our sport the most important thing is to be resilient, that\u2019s it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust do your work every single day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/martina-navratilova-thinks-she-knows-the-precise-reason-why-grigor-dimitrov-just-cannot-beat-novak-djokovic-after-their-miami-open-match\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dimitrov reached the semi-finals of the Miami Open<\/a> in his last ATP outing, enjoying his best tournament of the season so far.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links health was a concern, however, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/boris-becker-sends-message-to-grigor-dimitrov-ahead-of-his-semi-final-at-the-miami-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dimitrov was helped off the court<\/a> after his marathon win over Francisco Cerundolo in the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n<p>The Bulgarian now admits how long it took him to recover from the match, and whether that affected his preparations for Monte-Carlo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot pretty quick but I was able to recover quick enough for me to get back at it,\u201d said Dimitrov.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs soon as you get back home you have to have a little bit of a talk with the team in terms of what we wanted to do in the upcoming weeks and whether we want to play here or not, because it\u2019s a difficult week.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not 22, 23 years-old where I can build up quicker, but at the same time, where I was physically coming from Miami I didn\u2019t feel bad at all so I was able to add some hours and play and compete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLittle by little, let\u2019s see how everything else unfolds, but I just felt I\u2019m in a good place playing out there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grigor Dimitrov\u2019s record at clay-court Masters 1000 tournaments<\/p>\n<p>Dimitrov last won a clay court title 11 years ago in Bucharest, Romania, and is yet to reach a final on the surface at the Masters 1000 level.<\/p>\n<p>Monte-Carlo is by far his best performing clay Masters event, however, having won 69% of his matches in the a Masters 1000 final on clay three years ago in Monte-Carlo, losing out in three sets to Spain\u2019s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Hoping for another deep run this time around, Dimitrov gave his honest opinion on clay courts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always felt good on the clay it\u2019s just been a very up and down season overall,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has been some very good results and very difficult results.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me this year, first I want to stay healthy, I think that\u2019s the most important thing for me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecond, step up to the challenge, especially on the clay. I like this surface.
