{"id":786793,"date":"2026-02-24T23:08:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T23:08:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/786793\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T23:08:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T23:08:13","slug":"shropshire-council-to-recommend-north-west-relief-roads-cancellation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/786793\/","title":{"rendered":"Shropshire Council to recommend North West Relief Road&#8217;s cancellation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">A Shropshire relief road talked about for decades is due to be recommended for cancellation as unaffordable, despite more than \u00a330m already spent.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A report on the North West Relief Road (NWRR) in Shrewsbury will be presented to a full meeting of Shropshire Council, which will consider the plan on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The authority said the report referred only to the part-funded Department for Transport (DfT) section, from Holyhead Road to Battlefield. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cx2new3rpqdo\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Work on the road stopped in June 2025<\/a>, after the government said there would be no further funding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It led the council to deem the road unaffordable.
