Unable to stop McLaren from clinching another 1-2 result in Miami, Jos Verstappen says it is \u201cso stupid\u201d that the FIA didn\u2019t clamp down on flexible front wings from race one of the F1 2025 season.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s fair to say Red Bull<\/a> are suspicious of McLaren\u2019s Formula 1 car, reportedly questioning everything from the front wing to the rear, and the tyres too.<\/p>\n

Jos Verstappen: Then they have benefited from it until then<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the latter that\u2019s dominated headlines in recent days after Zak Brown\u2019s \u2018tire water\u2019 bottle dig amidst fresh reports that Red Bull are using thermal imaging cameras to capture the hot spots on the McLaren\u2019s tyres during pit stops as they reportedly allege McLaren are using small amounts of water to cool the tyres.<\/p>\n

Brown went as far as to entice the \u201cone team\u201d<\/a> \u2013 Red Bull not mentioned \u2013 that \u201cfocuses on that strategy\u201d of protesting \u201cmore than others\u201d to protest the MCL39. <\/p>\n

But, he told the Telegraph<\/strong>, it should be done in the \u201cproper way\u201d where a team protesting has to \u201cmake it formal, disclose where it comes from, you have to put some money down\u201d.<\/p>\n

McLaren\u2019s tyre wear isn\u2019t the only issue Red Bull have with the MCL39 as the team has also questioned the flexibility of the championship-leader\u2019s wings \u2013 rear and front.<\/p>\n

While the FIA clamped down on the flexibility of all of the cars\u2019 rear wings at the very beginning of the season, motorsport\u2019s governing body will only introduce stricter tests for the front wing at the Spanish Grand Prix.<\/p>\n

And given McLaren already hold the 1-2 in the Drivers\u2019 standings<\/a> with Verstappen 32 points off the pace set by Oscar Piastri, his father Jos is concerned about what could happen in the two races before the FIA\u2019s technical directive is implemented.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll see what happens,\u201d he told Racexpress<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut then suddenly there is a rule change around the wings\u2026 Then I think, \u2018do that at the beginning of the year, then it\u2019s the same for everyone\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut why after so many races, and then it\u2019s no longer allowed? <\/p>\n

\u201cThen they have benefited from it until then. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think that\u2019s so stupid, but that\u2019s part of it, I think.\u201d<\/p>\n

Announcing back in January that additional front wing tests will be introduced from the Spanish GP, the FIA explained staggered process.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis phased approach allows teams to adapt without the need to discard existing components unnecessarily,\u201d read the statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese adjustments are aimed at further refining our ability to monitor and enforce bodywork flexibility regulations, ensuring a level playing field for all competitors to promote fair and exciting racing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although Red Bull team boss Christian Horner didn\u2019t point fingers at any one team, the Briton believes the Spanish clamp down will have an \u201ceffect\u201d on all of the teams, some more than others.<\/p>\n

Horner told the media, including PlanetF1.com, in Miami: \u201cI think it\u2019ll have it, for sure it\u2019s going to have an effect.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow how much it affects your competitors versus you is difficult to predict, but for sure, it\u2019s a significant change. I mean, it\u2019s not just a tweak. <\/p>\n

\u201cSo it will affect all of the cars. It\u2019s just to what quantum.\u201d<\/p>\n
