The UK announced nearly 300 new sanctions on Tuesday with its “biggest” sanctions package, targeting Russia’s critical revenue streams, including its energy sector, and military suppliers.<\/p>\n
A statement from the Foreign Office said the sanctions, announced on the fourth anniversary of the Ukraine War, represent the largest package of sanctions against Russia in this period.<\/p>\n
“Today\u2019s action\u202ftargets\u202fone of\u202fthe world\u2019s largest oil pipeline companies,\u202fPJSC Transneft,\u202fresponsible for transporting over 80% of Russian\u202foil exports, further hampering the Kremlin\u2019s desperate scramble to find buyers for its\u202fsanctioned oil,” the statement said.<\/p>\n
The new measures also targeted Russia\u2019s covert oil trading network, sanctioning 175 companies linked to the \u201c2Rivers\u201d oil group\u2014one of the world\u2019s largest shadow fleet operators and a key trader of Russian crude, according to the readout.<\/p>\n
The statement said the sanctions target 49 entities and individuals, including international suppliers of Russian drones, components and technology, as well as actors in Russia\u2019s liquefied natural gas sector.<\/p>\n
It added that nine banks handling Russian cross-border payments are also included in the package.<\/p>\n
“The UK\u202fhas today taken decisive\u202faction to\u202fdisrupt the\u202fcritical\u202ffinancing, military equipment\u202fand revenue streams that sustain Russia\u2019s aggression, in our largest raft of measures since the early months of the invasion,” said Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper. “Today I\u2019m in Kyiv announcing \u00a330 million ($40.52 million) in funding to strengthen Ukrainian energy resilience and support recovery, taking the total UK support to \u00a321.8 billion since the start of the war.”<\/p>\n
She added that they will continue to stand with the people of Ukraine and defend European security, as “Ukraine\u2019s security is our security.”<\/p>\n
