{"id":78942,"date":"2025-05-06T10:53:12","date_gmt":"2025-05-06T10:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/78942\/"},"modified":"2025-05-06T10:53:12","modified_gmt":"2025-05-06T10:53:12","slug":"fallacher-leaves-orange-france-to-head-eutelsat-as-leo-market-heats-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/78942\/","title":{"rendered":"Fallacher leaves Orange France to head Eutelsat as LEO market heats up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>J\u00e9r\u00f4me H\u00e9nique, currently head of Middle East and Africa, will replace Fallacher from 1 June with Yasser Shaker, CEO of Orange Egypt, stepping into H\u00e9nique shoes <\/p>\n<p>Jean-Francois Fallacher (pictured) will lead the Franco-British satellite organisation, Eutelsat Group, from the start of June, replacing Eva Berneke, who has led the company since 2022. Berneke\u2019s departure is something of a surprise, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/media-telecom\/eutelsat-appointed-jean-franois-fallacher-new-ceo-2025-05-05\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a>. She was at the helm when Eutelsat \u2013 which operates geostationary Earth orbit satellites \u2013 merged with the UK\u2019s OneWeb \u2013 a low-Earth orbit satellite operator \u2013 in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The company said it would be looking for additional financing this summer.<\/p>\n<p>The last couple of years has seen an upsurge in the role of satellite communications with the rise of direct to device technology, making it a feasible option for delivering connectivity to remote areas and to add resilience as attacks on submarine cables proliferate. <\/p>\n<p>There is also considerable concern across the continent about its reliance on Elon Musk\u2019s Starlink, and Eutelsat is a possible home-grown alternative. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Multi-country experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During Fallacher\u2019s long career at Orange group, he held senior positions in Romania, Poland, Spain and France. Christel Heydemann, CEO of the Orange group, stated, \u201cI would like to thank Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Fallacher for his unwavering commitment throughout his career at Orange. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore recently, I would like to underline the essential role he played in the creation of MasOrange and the implementation of the Lead the Future strategy in France. On behalf of all the teams, I warmly thank him and wish him much success in his new position.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>A rounded resume<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fallacher will be succeeded by J\u00e9r\u00f4me H\u00e9nique, EVP and CEO of Orange Africa and the Middle East since July 2022, overseeing 18 countries and more than 135 million customers. This region is the engine house of growth for Orange group. At its <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.orange.com\/orange-posts-robust-first-quarter-results-and-confirms-its-2025-targets\/#:~:text=First%20quarter%202025%20revenues%20reached,or%20-44%20million%20euros).\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Q1 earnings report last month<\/a>, Africa &amp; the Middle East\u2019s\u00a0revenues up 12.8% (rising by \u20ac231\u00a0million), driven by increases of 21% in mobile data, 19.1% in fixed broadband, 22.1% in Orange Money and 17.1% in B2B across all activities.<\/p>\n<p>H\u00e9nique faces a very different situation in France where earnings for the same quarter\u00a0decreased 1.3% (a fall of \u20ac55\u00a0million) while retail services excluding PSTN\u00a0grew only 1.5% and wholesale services fell 4.3%.<\/p>\n<p>H\u00e9nique began his career as a consultant, and then held positions including Marketing Director in Spain, Home Consumer Market Director in France, and Group Marketing Director at Orange.\u00a0He started his career in Africa and the Middle East as Deputy CEO of the Sonatel Group in 2010. In 2015, he took over as CEO of Orange Jordan before becoming CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Mover and Shaker<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yasser Shaker, currently EVP, CEO of Orange Egypt, will step into H\u00e9nique\u2019s role from 1 July, in agreement with the Board of Directors of Orange MEA. He will also join the Group\u2019s Executive Committee and report to Heydemann.<\/p>\n<p>She said, \u201cI am also delighted with the appointment of Yasser Shaker as CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa. His extensive experience and deep knowledge of the region will be essential for continuing our growth momentum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before joining Orange Egypt, Shaker served as the CTIO of Orange Middle East and Africa.\u00a0He is a board member of several universities and organizations, actively working to enhance youth employability.<\/p>\n<p>Shaker started as a telecoms engineer, graduating from the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University.
