{"id":78988,"date":"2025-05-06T11:16:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-06T11:16:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/78988\/"},"modified":"2025-05-06T11:16:10","modified_gmt":"2025-05-06T11:16:10","slug":"former-f1-driver-very-much-a-candidate-for-f1-2026-return","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/78988\/","title":{"rendered":"Former F1 driver &#8216;very much a candidate&#8217; for F1 2026 return"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Mick Schumacher is reportedly \u2018very much a candidate\u2019 to make a comeback next season with Formula 1\u2019s new 11th team, Cadillac F1.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Schumacher is one of several candidates linked to the American team\u2019s second seat amid reports Sergio Perez is on the verge of being signed as their lead driver.<\/p>\n<p>Is the F1 dream still alive for Mick Schumacher?<\/p>\n<p>Schumacher has been away from the Formula 1 grid for the past three seasons after he was dropped by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/team\/haas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Haas<\/a> at the end of a disappointing 2022 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Recording more big crashes than top-ten showings, then-Haas team boss Guenther Steiner opted not to renew his contract and instead signed the experienced Nico Hulkenberg.<\/p>\n<p>Schumacher went on to join Mercedes as a reserve driver before returning to racing with Alpine, where he has spent the past two seasons contesting the World Endurance Championship.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, has made it known that Formula is still his dream.<\/p>\n<p>F1 contracts: Made to be broken?<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/f1-2025-driver-contract-expiry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Revealed: The six drivers out of contract at the end of the F1 2025 season<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/f1-2026-driver-line-up-confirmed-grid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">F1 2026 driver line-up: Lewis Hamilton and other drivers already confirmed for 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me there is nothing better than Formula One, so my constant thoughts are about Formula One and that\u2019s what I really want to do,\u201d he told <strong>Divebomb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously when I\u2019m here at a race weekend, I\u2019m here to work in WEC and that\u2019s obviously what I focus on, but definitely my ultimate goal is to be back in a Formula One car.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s a dream, the Formula 1\u2019s rumour mill, says may not be over despite his time away.<\/p>\n<p>According to <strong>sport.de<\/strong>, Schumacher is \u2018very much a candidate at the new US racing team Cadillac\u2019 with the German holding \u2018talks with the team officials\u2019 when he attended the Miami Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p>Eagle-eyed fans noted Schumacher was present in Miami where the son of seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher was spotted walking into the paddock with good friend and Haas F1 driver Esteban Ocon.<\/p>\n<p>He reportedly later attended the Cadillac launch event after which he liked the team\u2019s Instagram post that teased their F1 2026 livery and team kit.<\/p>\n<p>One person who has championed Schumacher\u2019s return is his uncle and former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher.<\/p>\n<p>The six-time Grand Prix winner has often claimed that Schumacher wasn\u2019t given a fair chance by Steiner and deserves the opportunity to show the Formula 1 paddock what he can do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBasically, he is a driver who has been in Formula 1 and has experience, but has also handled situations well,\u201d he told <strong>Sky Deutschland<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe didn\u2019t have an easy time in Formula 1, but in the end it worked out really well. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow the switch to the WEC, where it also works very well, which is important. You need a driver with whom you can build something, who doesn\u2019t crash and who is a team player.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone reckons <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/bernie-ecclestone-bold-mick-schumacher-statement-new-f1-2026-opens-up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">having the Schumacher name back in Formula 1<\/a> would be good for the American market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Michael had been by his side, Mick would be a regular driver in Formula 1 today,\u201d he told <strong>F1 Insider<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat speaks for him, the name Schumacher has even more charisma in the USA than in Europe.
