href=\"https:\/\/www.nottinghampost.com\/news\/local-news\/urgent-road-repairs-appeal-over-10820503\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Nottinghamshire\u2019s &#8220;most dangerous road&#8221;<\/a> due to the severity of <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nottinghampost.com\/news\/local-news\/tory-notts-council-previously-rejected-10819474\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">potholes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">However, campaigners have called on the Reform-run <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nottinghampost.com\/all-about\/nottinghamshire-county-council\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Nottinghamshire County Council<\/a> do more after the potholes were reported a week before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The spotlight has been on the A612 Colwick Loop Road since Monday, February 16 after a video \u2013 made and shared on Facebook by Conservative Nottinghamshire County Councillor Mike Adams \u2013 showed the treacherous conditions of the road in an urgent appeal for the council to fix it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The junction next to Marks and Spencer\u2019s at Victoria Retail Park, Netherfield, was shown to be in a <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nottinghampost.com\/all-about\/traffic-travel\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">severely deteriorated state with deep potholes by the set of traffic lights<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The video has more than 40,000 views at the time of writing and since its upload he gave an update letting residents know the <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nottinghampost.com\/all-about\/nottinghamshire-county-council\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">county council<\/a>\u2019s highways director had visited the spot on Thursday, February 19.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Cllr Adams told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) he first notified the council\u2019s highways director of the issue on Sunday, February 15 and asked for a meeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He was then expecting an update from the council\u2019s highways team on Monday (February 23) but so far \u201chas not heard a thing\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Instead, two road signs displaying \u2018Ramp Ahead\u2019 and \u2018Slow\u2019 heading towards Nottingham have been placed just before the damaged spot to warn drivers \u2013 Cllr Adams noticed these on February 19 on the highways director\u2019s data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Cllr Adams says the junction has \u201cmassively deteriorated\u201d in the past eight weeks, claiming drivers have to slow down to five miles per hour to go over it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He said: \u201cIt\u2019s arguably the most dangerous road in Nottinghamshire at the moment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cIt has hundreds of thousands of journeys per year, it connects two of our bridges, it\u2019s a 40 miles per hour zone, it\u2019s in a braking zone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cIf you overshoot the junction there\u2019s cars coming from the right. ABS (anti-lock) brakes stutter as you brake \u2013 if you hit a bump while your brakes are doing that you generally don\u2019t stop when you should.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cPeople are swerving to avoid it, people slamming on their brakes. It all has knock-on effects of cars behind you, never mind the obvious damage to people\u2019s vehicles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Cllr Adams said he was \u201cannoyed\u201d at the lack of action to fix the road, saying: \u201cThis is a serious problem \u2013 all we\u2019ve got is a slow and ramp sign. After a week that\u2019s all we\u2019ve got\u2026 why can\u2019t the council just fix it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Under the previous Conservative council the policy was for temporary repairs to be completed within 24 hours of notification but then to return within 90 days to complete a resurfacing section.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Cllr Sam Smith (Con), a county councillor who also represents the Trent Valley ward on <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nottinghampost.com\/all-about\/gedling-borough-council\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Gedling Borough Council<\/a> alongside Cllr Adams, referred to the potholes as \u201ccraters\u201d and the road being \u201cthe surface of the moon\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He told the LDRS: \u201cIt\u2019s the worst part of the network in Nottinghamshire that I have to drive over every day. It\u2019s atrocious, it\u2019s a main thoroughfare connecting <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nottinghampost.com\/all-about\/gedling\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Gedling<\/a> to Nottingham and other parts of the county.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Cllr Smith said he was \u201cshocked, horrified and disgracefully frustrated\u201d when he noticed the two signs on his drive \u201cover the rumble strip\u201d on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He said: \u201cWhat a disgrace. Is that a joke? This is what Reform\u2019s pothole repairs look like, forget the roads, we\u2019ll just put signs to warn you. Those signs are doing absolutely nothing to save the residents I represent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ve got a brilliant idea: instead of sending people to put signs out, send the same people to fill the potholes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Chair of Trustees Francis Rodrigues pictured at the Gedling Youth and Community Hub in Shearing Hill, Gedling, Nottingham.\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/1_JS375361627.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"Francis Rodrigues pictured at the Gedling Youth and Community Hub in Shearing Hill, Gedling, Nottingham\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">Francis Rodrigues pictured at the Gedling Youth and Community Hub in Shearing Hill, Gedling, Nottingham(Image: Joseph Raynor\/ Reach PLC)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Gedling resident Francis Rodrigues, who is part of the Gedling Village Local History and Preservation Society, said other roads in his area, such as Brooklands Drive and Lorimer Avenue, were becoming \u201crat runs\u201d due to people avoiding certain roads due to their poor conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He said: \u201cThe worst road for me is Avon Road up to Lambley Lane, there\u2019s a series of ruts and you have to travel over it at three or four miles per hour to avoid damage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m a keen cyclist\u2026 it\u2019s added danger to cyclists as they have to avoid them.
