{"id":7951,"date":"2025-04-10T13:10:11","date_gmt":"2025-04-10T13:10:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/7951\/"},"modified":"2025-04-10T13:10:11","modified_gmt":"2025-04-10T13:10:11","slug":"andy-roddick-has-heard-a-tennis-rumor-which-he-really-hopes-is-true-as-it-could-lead-to-big-change-at-grand-slams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/7951\/","title":{"rendered":"Andy Roddick has heard a tennis rumor which he really hopes is true as it could lead to big change at Grand Slams"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The second Grand Slam of 2025 is fast approaching, as fans look forward to the stars of men\u2019s and women\u2019s tennis taking to the court in Paris.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>World number one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/rod-laver-reacts-as-jannik-sinner-beats-alexander-zverev-in-the-australian-open-final\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jannik Sinner won the Australian Open<\/a> men\u2019s singles title earlier this year, securing his third Major crown with a straight sets victory over Alexander Zverev.<\/p>\n<p>On the women\u2019s side, America\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/madison-keys-reveals-what-serena-williams-messaged-her-after-she-won-the-australian-open-title\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Madison Keys won her first Grand Slam<\/a>, taking down Aryna Sabalenka in a three-set thriller on Rod Laver Arena.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/GettyImages-2195838777-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Cameron Spencer\/Getty Images\" \/>Photo by Cameron Spencer\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>At Roland Garros, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/iga-swiatek\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iga Swiatek<\/a> and Carlos Alcaraz will look to defend their titles despite struggling for form as of late.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/french-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">French Open<\/a>, one former Grand Slam champion has shared his thoughts on a rumor he heard recently.<\/p>\n<p>Andy Roddick says he \u2018hopes\u2019 the rumor of top 20 players asking Slams for more prize money is true<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on his Served with Andy Roddick podcast, 2003 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US Open<\/a> champion Andy Roddick gave his honest opinion on something he heard last week.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrize money, percentage of prize money, is insane, it\u2019s laughably low,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/andy-roddick\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roddick<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope the rumors of the top 20 [players] on the men\u2019s and women\u2019s side writing a letter directly representing themselves to the Slams is true.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been reported, hopefully, we\u2019ll know more about it, and we\u2019ll talk more about it when it is confirmed. I hope that\u2019s the case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/GettyImages-1680544629-2-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Tim Clayton\/Corbis via Getty Images\" \/>Photo by Tim Clayton\/Corbis via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>News broke earlier this month that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/leading-atp-and-wta-players-call-for-major-change-across-all-four-grand-slams-with-letter-sent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">top 20 players in tennis sent a letter to the four Grand Slams<\/a>, requesting an increase to prize money, relative to the revenue the events generate.<\/p>\n<p>Roddick then named the two other improvements he thinks players should be demanding from the Grand Slams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to beat this drum as much as I can, healthcare contributions from Slams [and] pensions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThink about yourself not three weeks from now but 30 years from now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThink about the people that are trying to be coaches, think about the people who are carving out a living, think about what your body is going to feel like.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"735\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/GettyImages-2156640152-1024x735.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by FRANCOIS GUILLOT\/AFP via Getty Images\" \/>Photo by FRANCOIS GUILLOT\/AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel a lot different at 42, having gone through 15 years of professional tennis than probably most 42-year-olds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAsk those questions now so you can reap the benefits later.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Andy Roddick says he would \u2018co-sign\u2019 one section of the PTPA lawsuit<\/p>\n<p>The Professional Tennis Players Association <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/features\/who-are-the-ptpa-ceo-mission-more\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[PTPA] launched a lawsuit against the tennis tours<\/a> earlier this year, demanding changes in several key areas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/the-two-issues-andy-roddick-agrees-with-the-ptpa-on-as-he-calls-for-change-to-be-made-on-the-atp-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roddick expressed his concerns with the PTPA\u2019s case<\/a> but has now shared the one point they made he is definitely on board with.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/GettyImages-1637252293-3-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Ilya S. Savenok\/Getty Images for PTPA<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would say actually make it, if you\u2019re an independent contractor then you have free markets to play whatever events,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is an incentive already to play in as many ATP [Tour events] and Slams as possible because of points. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery rank, every endorsement is structured off of rankings that you get from those tournaments.
