{"id":799044,"date":"2026-03-02T13:00:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-02T13:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/799044\/"},"modified":"2026-03-02T13:00:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T13:00:12","slug":"ukraine-russia-peace-talks-still-expected-this-week-zelenskiy-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/799044\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine-Russia peace talks still expected this week, Zelenskiy says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">KYIV, March 2 (Reuters) &#8211; A new round of U.S.-brokered peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, scheduled for week, has not been canceled following the weekend \u200cstrikes on Iran by the U.S. and Israel, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said \u200con Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Zelenskiy said that Kyiv was considering a new location for the talks, which had been due to \u200btake place on March 5 and 6 in Abu Dhabi, and that Turkey or Switzerland were possibilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;Due to the ongoing hostilities, we cannot confirm that the meeting will take place in Abu Dhabi but, nevertheless, no-one has cancelled the meeting,&#8221; he told reporters in a briefing \u200con WhatsApp.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said \u2060on Monday that it was in Russia&#8217;s interests to continue peace talks with Ukraine and that Moscow&#8217;s preference was still to reach a \u2060diplomatic settlement to end the four-year war.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">U.S. President Donald Trump has been pushing both Kyiv and Moscow to find a way to end the conflict. But, despite multiple rounds of talks, \u200bUkraine and \u200bRussia remain far apart in their positions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Zelenskiy reiterated \u200bon Monday his refusal to cede \u200cto Moscow&#8217;s demand that Ukraine withdraw from the remaining 20% of the eastern Donetsk region that Russia has been unable to conquer. Zelenskiy said Ukraine&#8217;s position was growing stronger as it had survived the critical cold winter months and remained resilient despite intense Russian drone and missile attacks on its energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Hostilities in the Middle East had so far \u200cno impact on weapons supplies to Ukraine from \u200bits allies, Zelenskiy said: &#8220;But, of course, we understand that \u200ba long war \u2013 if it is \u200bto be long \u2013 and the intensity of the fighting will affect the \u200camount of air defence equipment we receive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He \u200bsaid that Russia was \u200bpreparing a new wave of attacks on infrastructure, logistics and water supplies, adding that ensuring sufficient deliveries of air defence weaponry remained a key challenge for \u200bKyiv.
