{"id":801420,"date":"2026-03-03T15:05:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T15:05:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/801420\/"},"modified":"2026-03-03T15:05:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T15:05:13","slug":"worm-moon-to-be-visible-to-skygazers-in-the-uk-on-tuesday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/801420\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Worm moon\u2019 to be visible to skygazers in the UK on Tuesday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The second full moon of the year will delight skygazers across large parts of the UK on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>The first full moon of spring, known as the worm moon, will be most visible from Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England, with cloudier conditions expected in the south.<\/p>\n<p>The Moon appeared red in parts of Asia, Australia, North America and South America earlier on Tuesday as it coincided with a full lunar eclipse \u2013 also known as a blood moon.<\/p>\n<p>But the worm moon will lose the distinctive colouring as it comes into view across the UK as the eclipse reached totality at around 11.30am on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"525\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Hoping to see the &#8216;Worm Moon&#8217; tonight? \ud83c\udf15<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s plenty of clear skies out there tonight, but cloudy for some \ud83d\udc47 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3JzKyYtvqF\">pic.twitter.com\/3JzKyYtvqF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Met Office (@metoffice) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/metoffice\/status\/2028817845283401984?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">March 3, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Dr Ed Bloomer, senior astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, said: \u201cIn the UK, we don\u2019t get to see the eclipse portion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s below the horizon for us. You get to see the Moon tonight, but you miss the bit where it reddens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The worm moon is thought to take its name from worms who escape from the soil to mate during the spring, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The blood moon appears red as the Moon lines up with Earth and the sun.<\/p>\n<p>Light escapes the eclipse and is scattered through Earth\u2019s atmosphere, causing the reddening effect.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Bloomer said: \u201cThe Earth acts a little bit like a prism.
