Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are \u201ctarnished\u201d by the scandals surrounding their father Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, according to royal biographer Ingrid Seward.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
\u201cIt has affected their lives a great deal,\u201d she told People for the outlet\u2019s latest cover story.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Years of drama surrounding the former Prince Andrew\u2019s association with Jeffrey Epstein culminated in his arrest on February 19\u2014his 66th birthday.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
As if their father Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor<\/a>\u2019s numerous accusations spanning back years weren\u2019t enough, the former prince\u2019s arrest last month was no doubt another level of embarrassment for his daughters Princess Beatrice<\/a> and Princess Eugenie<\/a>.<\/p>\n On February 19, the former Duke of York was arrested at his new home, Wood Farm, on the Sandringham estate on his 66th birthday, detained in custody for roughly 11 hours on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Andrew allegedly leaked classified information to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein when Andrew served as a U.K. trade envoy from 2001 to 2011. He hasn\u2019t yet been charged and Andrew has always denied any accusations of wrongdoing against him.<\/p>\n Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie on September 14, 2023 Though both Beatrice and Eugenie have been seen in public since Andrew\u2019s arrest\u2014though sparingly\u2014the sisters\u2019 typically full social calendar has ground to a halt. \u201cThey\u2019re like a locked ship right now,\u201d a friend told People<\/a>.<\/p>\n Royal biographer Ingrid Seward told the outlet of Andrew\u2019s scandal that Beatrice and Eugenie \u201care tarnished by this. It has affected their lives a great deal.\u201d<\/p>\n Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie on September 19, 2022 Though allegations about Andrew have swirled for years\u2014as far back as 2019 and his disastrous BBC Newsnight interview\u2014in October, he surrendered his prestigious Duke of York title days before his older brother King Charles<\/a> stripped him of all royal titles and privileges, rendering him a commoner. Though he is no longer a prince, Beatrice and Eugenie retain their princess titles and their respective Her Royal Highness stylings.<\/p>\n On January 30, the U.S. Department of Justice released the latest batch of Epstein files, which included numerous mentions of Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson<\/a>. Almost immediately after, the former couple moved out of the home they shared, the 30-room mansion Royal Lodge on the Windsor estate, with Andrew relocating to Sandringham, where he would be arrested within weeks. Sarah\u2019s whereabouts are unknown, and she hasn\u2019t been seen in public since Andrew\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice on January 18, 2013 Of Andrew, royal biographer Andrew Lownie\u2014whose book Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York is about Andrew and Sarah\u2014told People, \u201cHe has been pampered all the way through his life, in this bubble. Status is everything to him\u2014it\u2019s his only sense of identity.\u201d<\/p>\n Lownie said that even now, the former prince \u201cthinks he\u2019s anointed\u2014that it\u2019s deeply unfair people have turned on him.\u201d<\/p>\n As for Sarah, a friend told the publication that \u201cShe\u2019s always been a fighter\u2014that\u2019s her trademark.\u201d Though she\u2019s made comebacks before, Seward said of the former Duchess of York, \u2018This time no one is going to give her the airspace.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cShe always thinks she can bounce back,\u201d a source told People of Sarah. \u201cBut this isn\u2019t something that can blow over.\u201d<\/p>\n As for Beatrice and Eugenie, \u201cTheir economic prospects depended on remaining within the royal family,\u201d Lownie said of the sisters, who both hold jobs outside of the royal family. \u201cTheir jobs in client relations are based on being princesses.\u201d<\/p>\n Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie on June 8, 2019 \u201cThey\u2019re caught between a rock and a hard place over loyalty to their parents and their future,\u201d Lownie added.<\/p>\n King Charles is said to remain \u201cvery fond\u201d of Beatrice and Eugenie, Seward said, but Prince William<\/a> has long favored a harder line on Andrew, the outlet reported. \u201cWilliam wants it all cleaned out before he gets [on the throne],\u201d Lownie explained. \u201cHe wants it dealt with now.\u201d<\/p>\n Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice on June 10, 2016 It remains to be seen what will happen for all four members of the York family\u2014Andrew, Sarah, Beatrice, and Eugenie\u2014but what seems clear is that Andrew has run out of chances. \u201cA stronger intervention earlier on might have prevented all of this,\u201d royal historian Catherine Mayer told People.<\/p>\n![\"Princess](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/3bd06999552b39340dd9719029a942dc.jpeg\"\/)
