Come summertime, there are few things better than the first sip of an ice-cold Aperol Spritz paired with a gorgeous view of London\u2019s glorious skyline. London already has a formidable roster of rooftop bars<\/a>, but soon another high-altitude venue will open in the city \u2013 and it\u2019ll be the capital\u2019s biggest yet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When it opens its doors on May 7, Freight Brixton<\/strong> will\u00a0be the city\u2019s largest rooftop venue. More than just a bar, the venue will also bring good food and bangin\u2019 tunes to the heart of south London.<\/p>\n

Located just minutes away from Brixton tube, the 1,000+ capacity open-air venue will sit adjacent to Brixton Village Market and opposite Pop Brixton\u2019s shipping containers. It may offer some healthy competition for other popular rooftop venues south of the river (we\u2019re looking at you Frank\u2019s<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Expect chef residencies, cocktail bars, live music, DJ collectives, food festivals and a chance to watch the footy in the sunshine all spring and summer long.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If this news sounds familiar, that\u2019s because Freight Brixton originally planned to open in July 2024 atop the Pope\u2019s Road branch of Sports Direct<\/a>.\u00a0An issue with licences delayed the project.<\/p>\n

Now launching in a nearby venue, Freight Brixton\u2019s chock-a-block events programme will kick off with a set by David Rodigan, who will bring his reggae sound system to the rooftop on May 9. Contemporary house-meets-funk DJ Dimitri From Paris is booked to play a disco set on June 6. Plus, the venue will also host weekly Soul of the South Thursdays as part of a collab with Brockwell Park\u2019s\u00a0Cross The Tracks Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As for the culinary delights on offer, Freight Brixton has lined up several food fezzies throughout the summer months including Taco Fest and Bite Twice presents Dine Hard, alongside Reggae Brunch and Maggi Brunch (yes, Jamaican tonic wine brand Magnum hosts brunch parties these days).<\/p>\n

Speciality bars include tequila-haven Casamigos House of Friends as well as Italian-inspired Hotel Milano serving aperitivo as part of the new Brixton Cocktail Club.<\/p>\n

For footy fans, a dedicated World Cup fanzone<\/a> alongside FA Cup and Champions League screenings means booking a table in the sunshine to watch the match just got a little easier.\u00a0The Brixton venue is the latest launch from all-singing, all-dancing entertainment complex company Freight Island. The chain already has\u00a0a venue in Manchester, with\u00a0more sites planned for Leeds and Newcastle<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Freight Brixton opens on May 7 at 33 Brixton Station Road, SW9 8PB.<\/p>\n
