In 2010, EU trade rules played a pivotal role in the company’s decision to expand abroad.

“EU trade agreements provided the framework for our strategic expansion. Tunisia’s preferential access enabled our nearshoring model, and now we’re establishing ourselves in India ahead of market liberalisation.”

Tiziano Ianni, CEO Tecno System Group

The small family-owned company targeted the Maghreb region first. Tunisia offered proximity to Italy and growing demand for high-quality electronic components for its industry.

Tunisia – A launchpad for internationalisation

The Association Agreement between the EU and Tunisia opened the door. It created a free trade area for industrial products. It removed tariffs, set clear rules of origin, and ensured a stable regulatory environment. These conditions cut both operational risks and costs. Without the legal certainty and simplified customs procedures provided by the EU’s trade framework, Tecno System’s first international step would have been far more complex and expensive.

To strengthen cooperation between the facilities in the two countries, Tecno System invested in cross-cultural training and shared management systems. Now, the Tunisian and Italian teams work closely together and maintain high quality standards.

The Tunisian plant needed sophisticated components and machinery. This demand boosted Italian production. The company created new skilled roles in research and development, international project management and quality control. It also strengthened relationships with local suppliers, who have grown alongside Tecno System’s international expansion.

India – Positioning for future growth

After the success in Tunisia, Tecno System entered India, a fast-growing market for transport and industrial infrastructure. With EU–India free trade agreement negotiations now concluded, the company expects lower tariffs and improved regulatory cooperation. By establishing its presence now, Tecno System is positioning itself to grow quickly once market access improves.

EU trade agreements powering expansion

Tecno System’s international expansion has attracted new multinational clients, seeking a global strategic partner rather than just a regional supplier. The company now enjoys greater resilience and less exposure to local economic or political fluctuations.

EU trade agreements have been a catalyst for our transformation.
