{"id":81097,"date":"2025-05-07T05:59:45","date_gmt":"2025-05-07T05:59:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/81097\/"},"modified":"2025-05-07T05:59:45","modified_gmt":"2025-05-07T05:59:45","slug":"sheffield-surprisingly-named-britains-best-city-for-food-uk-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/81097\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield surprisingly named Britain&#8217;s best city for food | UK | News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A city has surprisingly been named Britain&#8217;s best for food &#8211; and it\u2019s not London or Manchester.<\/p>\n<p><a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/all.accor.com\/event\/top-uk-food-cities.en.shtml\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">All.com<\/a> has curated the rankings using Google reviews, <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/news\/uk\/1863768\/every-uk-restaurant-michelin-stars-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michelin<\/a> Guide ratings, social data and sentiment of cities outside <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/london\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">London<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sheffield took the top spot as the UK\u2019s best <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/life-style\/food\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">foodie<\/a> city, with a total score of 99. It has four restaurants in the Michelin Guide, 71 food markets, 99 food festivals and a \u2018foodie population score\u2019 of 54.<\/p>\n<p>Standouts include the <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/sheffield-wednesday-fc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sheffield<\/a> Food Festival, which takes place throughout the city every May, and the huge monthly Peddler Market celebrating \u201cdiverse cuisines, proud heritage, and the best quality produce\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sheffield was also named one of Europe\u2019s best city breaks in 2023 by TimeOut and the Observer Food Monthly called it \u201cthe UK\u2019s foodie hotspot\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Popular restaurants in the city include Tonco, Bench, the Orange Bird, Juke and Loe, Native, Domo and Kelu, and V or V. Spots serve everything from international street food to fine dining.<\/p>\n<p>Cutlery Works in Sheffield is the largest food hall in the north of England, featuring a mixture of permanent and semi-permanent unique and independent restaurants, communal dining spaces, bars and coffee roasters.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s tourism board said Sheffield\u2019s foodie status has come from \u201cthe revival of post-industrial spaces, coupled with a thriving real ale scene and a whole host of inventive chefs with a true passion for local produce\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It is also a brewing hotspot, having been named the \u201creal ale capital of the world\u201d. It is home to 58 breweries, more per head of population than anywhere else in the country, producing around 1,800 different beers every year.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the top five UK foodie cities were made up of Edinburgh, Newcastle, Manchester, and Birmingham. The top 15 included Cardiff, Bristol, York, Norwich and Glasgow.<\/p>\n<p>The city with the most Michelin Guide restaurants is Edinburgh, Sheffield has the most food festivals.
