{"id":816044,"date":"2026-03-10T06:24:17","date_gmt":"2026-03-10T06:24:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/816044\/"},"modified":"2026-03-10T06:24:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T06:24:17","slug":"london-renters-union-calls-for-rent-controls-in-demonstration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/816044\/","title":{"rendered":"London Renters Union calls for rent controls in demonstration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-164954 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/rent-control.jpg\" alt=\"Call for rent controls\" width=\"730\" height=\"456\"  \/>BRISTOL, UK \u2013 JUNE 10, 2017: A protester holds a placard calling for rent controls at a demonstration against government policies in the wake of the general election held on June 8, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Rent controls are being called for in a new nationwide demonstration taking place next month.<\/p>\n<p>The London Renters Union is inviting campaigners to <a href=\"https:\/\/tally.so\/r\/ZjdJGA?mc_cid=445e3ec020&amp;mc_eid=e7aa200ceb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">join the demonstration<\/a> on April 18.<\/p>\n<p>It is the latest element to the union\u2019s campaign to make housing more affordable.<\/p>\n<p>Rising rents<\/p>\n<p>It claims the demonstration will bring more than 50 organisations representing renters, workers and housing campaigners from across the country.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"quote-solid\" wp_automatic_readability=\"5\">\n<p>Many of us cut back on essentials just to pay rent.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In its campaign literature, it insisted that \u201crising rents are driving record levels of homelessness\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>It continues: \u201cMany of us cut back on essentials just to pay rent. While landlords and developers make record profits, the rest of us are at breaking point.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAcross Europe, housing movements are taking to the streets and winning.
