Thanks to Sony Pictures’ largely abysmal track record with its Marvel movies, most\u00a0fans didn’t have high expectations for\u00a0Madame Web.\u00a0So, when the movie arrived with\u00a012% on Rotten Tomatoes and made only\u00a0$100.3 million worldwide, it wasn’t exactly shocking.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Despite boasting a decent\u00a0cast and a director with superhero experience in SJ Clarkson (Jessica Jones,\u00a0The Defenders), very little\u00a0about\u00a0Madame Web\u00a0worked. Eventually, it became a subject of ridicule and is now\u00a0destined to be remembered as one of the worst superhero movies ever made.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Dakota Johnson led the movie as Cassandra Webb, and faced the wrath of critics and fans alike for what proved to be a…peculiar…performance. Even after an unhinged press tour, the actress has, amazingly, managed to avoid Madame Web completely derailing her career.<\/p>\n
The Fifty Shades of Grey star is currently taking\u00a0centre stage in Calvin Klein’s latest underwear campaign, and unsurprisingly, the campaign has everyone talking (to view the video, you may have to follow the link to Instagram).<\/p>\n

It’s hard not to feel for most of the actors who got caught up in\u00a0Madame Web’s…web…but they’ve mostly moved on from the project with minimal damage to their careers.<\/p>\n
Doing the rounds to promote\u00a0Materialists\u00a0last summer, Johnson was asked about\u00a0Madame Web\u00a0and bluntly responded with a laugh,\u00a0“It wasn\u2019t my fault.”<\/strong><\/p>\n
She added,\u00a0“There\u2019s this thing that happens now where a lot of creative decisions are made by committee. Or made by people who don\u2019t have a creative bone in their body. And it\u2019s really hard to make art that way. Or to make something entertaining that way. And I think unfortunately with ‘Madame Web,’\u00a0it started out as something and turned into something else.”<\/strong><\/p>\n
“And I was just sort of along for the ride at that point,”<\/strong>\u00a0Johnson continued.\u00a0“But that happens. Bigger-budget movies fail all the time. I don\u2019t have a Band-Aid over it. There\u2019s no part of me that\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, I\u2019ll never do that again\u2019 to anything. I\u2019ve done even tiny movies that didn\u2019t do well. Who cares?”<\/strong><\/p>\n
Regardless, Marvel fans have reacted to Johnson’s partnership with Calvin Klein by hilariously sharing their newfound love for Madame Web. Some are even jokingly (we think) hoping that Sony might consider moving forward with a sequel now…<\/p>\n
