At Work and <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/pensions\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Pensions<\/a> questions in the <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/house-of-commons\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">House of Commons<\/a> on Monday, March 9, Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury Torsten Bell said that the final sum people will see as an increase from next month is \u00a3575 a year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He added that <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/department-for-work-and-pensions\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">DWP<\/a> projections show that people should be getting \u00a32,100 a year extra by April 2029. He told the chamber: \u201cThe yearly amount of the full<a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/money\/isa-warning-over-biggest-issue-36840728\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\"> new state pension is projected to rise<\/a> by about \u00a32,100 a year over the current Parliament. That reflects the Government\u2019s commitment to the triple lock for the duration of the Parliament. Payments of both the basic and new state pensions will increase by 4.8% in a few weeks\u2019 time, boosting pensioners\u2019 incomes by up to \u00a3575 a year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Labour\u2019s Peter Prinsley then <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/money\/martin-lewis-shares-how-long-36838553\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">asked about pensioners who are struggling to survive<\/a>: \u201cWe welcome the Government\u2019s commitment to the triple lock, but some pensioners in my constituency continue to live in poverty and isolation, and are in need of food banks. What specific measures can the Government take to reduce social isolation and tackle poverty in this group of people?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Mr Bell replied: \u201cPensioner <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/money\/martin-lewis-says-door-shuts-36836529\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">poverty halved under the last Labour Government<\/a>, but it has risen more recently. That is why it is so important that, as well as increasing the state pension, we have put in place the biggest-ever take-up campaign for pension credit and focused on the cost of essentials\u2014most importantly, energy, where new measures will come into place in the next few weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pension rates in 2026\/27<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The full rates for 2026\/27 will be:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"LiItem_li-item__IF4xI\">\u00a3241.30 per week for the new State Pension (for those reaching State Pension age on or after 6 April 2016) \u2013 up from \u00a3230.25 in 2025\/26.<\/li>\n<li class=\"LiItem_li-item__IF4xI\">\u00a3184.90 per week for the basic State Pension (the core amount in the old State Pension system) \u2013 up from \u00a3176.45 in 2025\/26.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He also explained that currently there are 12 million pensioners in the UK but this is set to increase to 18 million over the next 50 years. Mr Bell said: \u201cOur view is that having the triple lock drive above-inflation increases, on average, among pensioners is the right thing to do for this Parliament. That is why we set it out in our manifesto, and that is Toggle showing location ofColumn 14what is driving the increases in the state pension.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Tory Mark Garnier hit out at the <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/rachel-reeves-mp\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Rachel Reeves<\/a> decision to target pensions for money raising measures. He said: \u201cIn the Government\u2019s first 18 months, they have disincentivised pension savings by introducing inheritance tax on pensions, removing pensions from their lifetime ISA reforms, forcing pension trustees into mandation and, most recently, introducing a cap on salary sacrifice savings incentives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;Through their actions, this Government are pushing people to be more reliant on the state pension, rather than encouraging people to take control of their own financial future.
